Minimum Qualifications

Three to five years of counseling experience in a college or university setting in one or more areas noted in the responsibilities of this area.

Master’s degree in the field of counseling from a regionally accredited college or university; may consider a master’s degree in counselor education. (Preferable to have a higher education emphasis within the program of study.)

Preferred Qualifications

Preference given to licensure as a counselor (such as Licensed Professional Counselor/LPC).

Experience in delivering counseling services (as offered within the RCCAdvising & Counseling Services) in a community college setting.

Expertise and experience working with students with disabilities in accordance with ADA/Section 504 regulations and applicable procedures.

Position Description

The Director provides leadership for the planning, delivery, supervision, and assessment of counseling and related services provided by the Advising & Counseling Center. The Director provides to students – directly and through staff – services that include assistance for personal counseling, career counseling, disability and special needs services, services for special student populations, and referral to community resources. The Director also provides major collaborative leadership and guidance for other college programs and services that pertain to college-wide advising, retention, and issues affecting student success. The Director supervises the Advising & Counseling Center staff and work-study students (if applicable) and reports to the VP for Student Development.

Essential Job Duties

1-Provide leadership for the development, coordination and administration of the services of the Advising & Counseling Center. 
2-In collaboration with staff, assigns or shares caseloads of students as appropriate to the services of the Advising & Counseling Center. 
3-Ensure, through planning, delegation to staff, and supervision/assessment, the appropriate provision of personal counseling, academic counseling, academic intervention, career counseling and related services, accessibility and special needs services, services for specific student populations, and interventions, if needed, related to disciplinary matters.
4-Develop and maintain favorable, collaborative working relationships with local and area mental health and medical professionals for purposes of referral and expansion of services for students.
5-Assist with the referral of students to community resources as needed in connection with personal counseling or identified needs for professional assistance.
6-Supervise and evaluate the Advising & Counseling Center staff and work-study students.
7-Serve as the college’s ADA/Section 504 Coordinator, working collaboratively with the Accessibility Counselor to ensure compliance with ADA-related regulations and procedures.
8-When requested, assist instructors regarding students experiencing personal and/or behavioral difficulty related to the students’ educational experiences.
9-Schedule staff to provide coverage for delivery of services, and is able to work (along with staff) a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and extended hours when needed.
10-When requested or needed, participate in academic advising activities and receive assigned student advisees.
11-Provide leadership to create and implement outreach and prevention strategies to serve students in both individual and group settings.
12-Coordinate and provide educational and informational opportunities for RCC faculty and staff in areas related to the various types of counseling services that impact students. 
13-Maintain collaborative relationships with other Student Development directors to ensure that services of the Advising & Counseling Center are properly connected to services in the Admissions, Financial Aid, and Records offices. 
14-Assist the Director of Testing Services with needs that are served by the Testing Center (particularly for accessibility testing services).
15-Annually recommend/request budget support for services and programs of the Advising & Counseling Center.
16-Maintain appropriate awareness and knowledge of various regulations, policies, and best practices related to the services offered by the Advising & Counseling Center.
17-Collaborate, when requested, with other college faculty/staff to plan and provide various programs or services that contribute to student success.
18-Maintain and secures appropriate records and prepare reports as requested or required.
19-Serve on specified college committees and similar groups as requested or assigned.
