Minimum Qualifications

· Master’s degree in counseling, counseling psychology, social work, or related field.

· Minimum of 3 years direct experience working as a counselor in higher education settings, preference given to community college experience.

· Direct experience working with students in immediate mental health and/or life crisis.

· Direct experience providing academic counseling to students in poor academic standing, such as educational intervention, warning, or probation.

· Evidence of direct experience implementing successful strategies for diverse college populations such as first-generation, veteran, and underprepared students. 

· Direct experience working in disability services and providing instructional accommodations to college student populations in adherence with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) federal regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

· Supervisory experience.

· Proficiency using the Student Information System (SIS), Datatel/Colleague.

· Proficiency in other student support technologies such as early alert systems, career management software, and Self Service.

· Experience working with high school populations such as dual enrolled and/or Early College.

· North Carolina licensure in a mental health related field (i.e., LCMHC, LSW, LMFT, etc.)

· Bilingual or multilingual proficiency to include American Sign Language (ASL).

Position Description

Job Description

The Director of Counseling Services is a full-time position with responsibilities on the LLP (Polkton) and OCH (Monroe) campuses. Under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director of Counseling Services is responsible for developing and leading a comprehensive program to guide the College’s students in disability services and personal, academic, and career counseling. This position also provides daily interactions with students in addition to the listed administrative responsibilities.

Job Duties

· Provide leadership and supervision for counselors and counseling services at all college locations.

· Make recommendations for the selection, training, mentoring, motivation, and evaluation of counselors, including developing employee performance objectives.

· Maintain regular travel to Anson and Union county campuses, off-campus centers, and instructional sites as needed or requested.

· Maintain a rotating schedule of the counseling staff at both campus locations.

· Perform administrative tasks such as developing departmental outcomes, providing updates for college reports, and maintaining regular documentation on counseling usage and services.

· Lead training and professional development sessions for faculty and staff related to counseling service topics.

· Develop policies and procedures for disability and counseling services that are equitable and inclusive in practice.

· Serve in a counseling role to students in academic, career, disability, and personal counseling while maintaining the confidential nature of such contacts.

· Identify and implement successful strategies for students in academic distress.

· Oversee early alert programming and the administration of the College’s Early Alert software to ensure student referrals are addressed timely and accurately.

· Identify and maintain contact with community resources for student referrals, including retaining a community resource catalog.

· Implement and maintain contemporary best practices for all programmatic efforts. 

· Provide or participate in college-wide student development-related training on topics including, but not limited to: career services, disability services, alcohol/drug awareness, sexual violence/abuse awareness, and academic success strategies.

· Participate in the advising and registration of new students.

· Work variable schedule if needed, including evenings and/or weekends.

· Participate in SPCC teams as requested to include membership on a threat assessment/behavioral intervention team and planning council teams.

· Perform other duties as assigned.
