Minimum Qualifications

Education must be commensurate with academic area and within the guidelines of the North Carolina Community College System and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. A master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Birth to Kindergarten or Elementary Education.  Candidate must be a dependable, dedicated professional and highly motivated self-starter. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and proficiency with computer software and learning management systems. Ability to present a professional teaching presence for theory and practical skills to develop rapport with students, faculty and workforce industry partners. Faculty must demonstrate competence in subject matter and be dedicated to adult and community college education. 

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred experience with online teaching and learning. Experience aligned with priorities to address workforce preparation and development, and ensure high-quality curriculum and pedagogy are accessible and culturally-responsive. Experience in working with High-Scope Curriculum Model.

Position Description

General responsibilities

Provide appropriate guidance and oversight for curriculum programs, Child Care Center, and the NCPreK program. Provide a direct avenue for supervision of the early childhood services (both curriculum and childcare) by acting as a community liaison with the McDowell County School system, child care centers, and the Children’s Network partnership. The Director of Early Childhood Education Programs serves as the Lead Instructor for the Early Childhood Programs, including the Educator Preparation Program (Residency Licensure) program.

Specific responsibilities

  1. Ensure program compliance with state curriculum standards for early childhood education.
  2. Develop curriculum schedule and offerings for the program.
  3. Supervise interns in internships and provide mentoring for students and centers.
  4. Secure and hire qualified adjuncts as needed.
  5. Instruct scheduled courses in the Early Childhood Program in accordance with the Program of Study and the description published in the MTCC Catalog and the North Carolina Community College System Common Course Library.
  6. Instruct course load in compliance with faculty workload policy for adult students, workforce development and dual enrollment programs to include day/evening/weekend semester schedules when necessary.
  7. Collaborate with community partners for needs in the county and secure stakeholders for the advisory board and advisory committee meetings.
    1. Plan and host advisory committee meetings at least annually.
    2. Provide support and guidance to the Director of the MTCC Child Development Center
      1. Coordinate recruiting and advertising for the NCPreK
      2. Provide support for IEP meetings
      3. Provide input on training for staff
      4. Provide input on employee orientation
  8. Collaborates with the Dean of Career and Technical Education and/or Department Chair in developing, implementing, and evaluating the curriculum and program outcomes.
  9. Participates in planning, implementing, and evaluating program policies for admission, progression and retention to support students in meeting graduation requirements.
  10. Functions as an academic advisor and counselor for designated students including registration duties.
  11. Participates in departmental, advisory, and administrative support committee meetings as scheduled.
  12. Schedule and post regular office hours for consultations with students.
  13. Accurately complete and submit paperwork in a timely manner to the appropriate area, including: office hours, course syllabus for each course taught, attendance rosters, grade sheets, drop/add forms, independent study forms, course substitutions, credit by exam forms, surveys, etc.
    1. Develop new EDU courses as required
    2. Complete and update the annual IE plan for the program
    3. Complete requests to the curriculum committee for any program changes.
  14. Assist the Dean of Career and Technical Education and/or Department Chair in maintenance of current and permanent official student records with storage that prevents damage and unauthorized use in compliance accrediting and certifying agencies.
  15. Recommend textbooks with in accordance with the college’s textbook ordering procedures.
  16. Supports the college in planning and implementation of culturally responsive teaching.
  17. Actively participate in professional development activities related to respective disciplines for personal growth development including membership in professional organizations.
  18. Actively recruit students by participating (as schedule permits) in recruiting functions on and off campus.
  19. Implement all policies as established by the Board of Trustees.
  20. Other duties as assigned.
