Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience administering and/or designing courses in a nationally recognized course management system
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in teaching in an online environment
• Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a similar area
• Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience at the college, university, or community college level
• Experience conducting quality reviews of courses using Quality Matters rubrics or other assessment tools
• Experience providing professional development for faculty related to the processes and technologies for building, conducting, and managing online courses
• Lesson and curriculum planning skills
• Visual design skills (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
• Audio/video skills in hardware (cameras, microphones, lighting, etc.) and software (Final Cut Pro, Premiere, Logic, GarageBand, iMovie, etc.)
• Familiarity with ADA guidelines
• Supervisory experience
• Budgeting experience
Position Description
Job Description
The Director of eLearning is a full-time 12-month position located primarily on the OCH Campus in Monroe, NC. Under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Student Success, the Director of eLearning promotes and facilitates the use of technology across programs and courses as an integral part of the overall learning experience for South Piedmont students. The Director oversees development of hybrid flexible (HyFlex),web-enhanced and online instruction, oversees development and marketing of fully-online programs, supervises instructional designers and staff housed in South Piedmont Studios, and provides professional development for faculty to effectively integrate technology in teaching and learning.
Job Duties
• Collaborate with academic leadership to continuously develop policies and processes for learning strategies to meet college’s strategic goals and improve the quality of elearning courses by establishing measurable outcomes.
• Adhere to and models the College’s curriculum development principles and standards, and demonstrate a high level of professionalism, innovation, collaboration, and institutional commitment in all actions
• Provide design, development, technology integration, and planning for curriculum, assessment, and instructional implementation in consultation with administrators, faculty, instructional staff, and subject matter experts
• Consult with administrators, faculty, instructional staff, and subject matter experts on the recruitment and selection of qualified editors, content experts, and other support personnel to complete scheduled curricular and content development projects
• Develop supporting materials and media (audio, video, photos, graphics, etc.) for courses based on curriculum guidelines or information provided by or in consultation with subject matter experts and instructors; construct and input learning object common repository course materials and media
• Review curriculum and content for quality and alignment to curriculum development principles and federal, state, and institutional standards during quality review cycles and before release, and provide reports for accreditation purposes
• Oversee faculty members, program directors, department chairs, and deans in the application of universal design principles and design of high quality, interactive web-enhanced, blended, and online courses.
• Adapt courses and coursework to assist learners with disabilities, ensuring ADA compliance
• Recognize potential process issues during curriculum development; identify and implement solutions so the curriculum development principles and standards and planned delivery dates are achieved
• Recommend changes to existing courses, including technology or instructional methods, to better adhere to course delivery options
• Participate in and attend, on an ongoing basis, meetings and team activities related to curriculum design and development
• Supervise South Piedmont Studio’s staff to ensure maintenance of hardware, software, budget, project documentation and files, and schedule on both the Monroe and Polkton campuses; assist users with productions from the planning stages to a final version
• Oversee development of fully-online short-term training, certificate, diploma, and degree programs, promote and market programs, and seek agreements for articulation, as appropriate
• Serve as primary liaison for issues supporting distance learning operations and strategies with Information Technology Services and other internal and external partners
• Maintain records and statistics; create reports to fulfill state and local requirements
• Create training opportunities for novice and experienced level faculty that will ensure a complete understanding of the online course expectations of SPCC
• Plan, coordinate, and develop training related to the use of the LMS for both students and faculty; maintain related records and documentation
• Encourage and support faculty to integrate College-generated publications and open source materials into courses
• Assist faculty with implementation of elearning as appropriate in all training and education programs
• Remain current with system and national developments in online education, and choose products and resources appropriate for the college’s online learning programs
• Travel and present at national/state/local conferences and workshops
• Remain aware of all emerging instructional technologies and make recommendations about system adoptions
• Coordinate and document the review of courses to ensure adherence to SPCC Online Standards, ACA compliance, and SACSCOC expectations
• Serve as the lead for SPCC’s State Authorization Compliance program.
