Position Description

Statement of Primary Purpose

To provide planning and coordination of college recruiting and admissions processes. To build and cultivate strong relationships with public school personnel and community groups; to implement recruiting/outreach activities that promote awareness of SCC and its degree, certificate and diploma programs; to provide regular and sustained communication and contact with all prospective students; to give assistance to prospective students in making educational decisions; to facilitate the application and admission process of prospective curriculum students and to work closely with SCC faculty and staff in recruiting students.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the college enrollment management plan
  • Supervise admissions and CCP staff
  • Implement a comprehensive student recruitment program which includes visits and presentations to high school students and serve as a college representative to community and civic groups in the local service area and outside of the service area when invited to speak or participate in sponsored activities and events
  • Coordinate off-campus recruitment initiatives including on-site admission and registration at area high schools. Partner with Director of Career Services to work with employees losing jobs from business closings
  • Facilitate, plan and conduct campus visits and tours for individuals and groups interested in attending the college.  Train select faculty, staff and students to assist in giving tours: This may include coordination of student-led tour representatives
  • Represent SCC at College Fairs sponsored by CACRAO
  • Coordinate the weekly Student Life Newsletter
  • Work closely with the coordinator of the college access program and New Century Scholars and Early College programs to facilitate high school age student enrollment and work cooperatively with Deans, faculty, academic advisors and program directors to include them in various recruiting activities and to be up-to-date and current on all degree, certificate and diploma programs of study including career and job opportunities for graduates
  • Coordinate and organize new student orientation programs offered throughout the year
  • Maintain a close working relationship with high school counselors, vocational directors and high school teachers in the SCC service area and in Western NC
  • Maintain and manage the prospective student database (Fire Engine Red) and coordinate regular communication with these students
  • Manage the college texting platform (Mongoose Cadence)
  • Develop and manage the admissions department budget
  • Work cooperatively with the Public Information Officer to develop and produce quality marketing and recruiting materials for distribution to prospective students including search mailers and program flat-sheets
  • Work with the Student Life Committee and assist in coordinating campus student activities events
  • Serve as a member of the college’s Marketing committee and other committees and task forces as appropriate
  • Prepare and distribute regular reports on recruiting activities 
  • Manage the development and updating of transfer articulation agreements.


Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Admissions contact person at designated times
  • Manage assigned social media accounts
  • Working with the college web master to keep recruiting information up-to-date
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor


Minimum Qualifications


Required:  Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business, Communications, Counseling or related area

Preferred:  Master’s degree in Education, Business, Communications, Counseling or related area


Knowledge and Skills    

  • Two years’ experience required
  • Three or more years’ experience preferred
  • Communication management software skills
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude
  • Self-motivated to work independently
  • Ability to organize and lead a team
  • Excellent verbal/written communications skills
  • Database management
  • Service centered, comfortable presenting to large groups
  • Excellent oral communications skills and the ability to make effective presentations to groups; good written communications and word processing skills; ability to compile data in spreadsheet/data base format; excellent organizational skills; ability to plan, implement and access recruiting processes.


Physical Demands          

Occasional lifting of recruiting materials (boxes of catalogs, college display, etc)


Licensing Requirement

Valid NC driver’s license


Working Conditions and Environment

Extended working hours during peak recruiting periods and registration/drop/add


Equipment Operation

PC and other standard office equipment
