Minimum Qualifications

Required:
Master’s degree in higher education administration, student development, organizational leadership or related field from a regionally accredited institution with at least two years of leadership experience in financial aid or a Bachelor’s degree with five years of progressive leadership experience in financial aid.
At least five years of experience supervising professional staff
Demonstrated commitment to equity and ability to work with diverse student populations.
Demonstrated ability to lead and work collegially with others in a team environment.
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills

Position Description

The Director, Financial Aid is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, management, assessment, and continuous improvement of comprehensive student financial aid programs, including veterans, work-study and scholarship services. The Director reports to the Dean, Enrollment Services and has the following responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and revises procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state law, and institutional financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensures the operation of an effective, objective, and fiscally sound financial aid program which maximizes the utility of available funds and the coordination of benefits to meet students in need of financial assistance.
  • Maintains the College’s financial aid data and ensures timely and accurate submission of required federal, state, and local reports and funding requests.
  • Projects and monitors expenditures, revenue and allocations for funds management in all aid programs, including work study and scholarships.
  • Develops and directs financial aid strategies that are consistent with the enrollment management objectives of the College and administers financial aid, scholarships and student employment programs that support student recruitment and retention
  • Monitors the College’s student loan default rate and implements effective default management strategies.  Develops and implements a comprehensive loan default management and financial literacy program.
  • Develops and maintains effective student-centered financial aid communications. Ensures communications reflect current compliance with federal and state regulations, including but not limited to, accuracy of policies and processes, and the integrity of consumer information.
  • Supervises financial aid and veteran’s benefit staff.  Oversees and assists in the training, professional development, and ongoing management of staff, including timely feedback and annual performance reviews.
  • Represents the College to external constituents, conducts presentations and articulates complex information on matters related to student financial aid.
  • Provides general oversight of College Veteran’s Administration benefits program implementation and record keeping in accordance with federal and state regulations and audit requirements.  Serves as a Certifying Official for veteran’s benefits programs.
  • Manages the coordination, set-up, and process improvement for all of the department’s financial aid modules, mnemonics, and develops systems for students to access their financial aid information and initiates procedures and technology solutions to improve the efficiency and ease of the financial aid process for students
  • Develops and monitors student learning outcomes related to financial aid and veteran services, assesses the effectiveness of the outcomes, and implements changes to improve financial aid services
  • Collaborates with the DCCC Foundation Office to award funds consistent with the goals and objectives of the foundation scholarship and/or other need-based programs.
  • Reviews and awards student financial aid in accordance with regulations and institutional polices to eligible students and evaluates satisfactory academic progress of financial aid students. Uses professional judgment and problem solving skills in the administration of financial aid programs as appropriate to the student circumstances.
  • Oversees the development and management of the financial aid office and veteran’s budgets
  • Participates in college-wide decision making as a member of the student affairs leadership team to help coordinate services and operations within the division and throughout the campus.
  • Establishes an environment of equity, sensitivity, understanding and respect for the diversity, inclusion of students, faculty and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Supports the mission, vision, and values of the College and attends College events and meetings.
  • Performs other duties appropriate to the title and as assigned that support the mission of the College.
