Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements (Applicant must meet all of the minimum requirements)

1. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Public Administration, Social Sciences, or related field;
2. Five years of full-time or equivalent financial aid experience, including importing and packaging student aid, writing financial aid policies and procedures, federal and state reporting, and processing Return to Title IVs (R2T4s), Satisfactory Academic Progress, and verifications;
3. Supervisory experience;
4. Experience with Ellucian Colleague student information system software.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

1. Three years of full-time or equivalent experience as a Financial Aid Director;
2. National Association of Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) Certified Financial Aid Administrator;
3. Completed the North Carolina Financial Aid Leadership Program;
4. Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language

Position Description

Job Description Summary

The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, management, assessment, compliance, and continuous improvement of comprehensive financial aid programs, including federal Title IV programs and other national, state, local, and institutional programs. The Director ensures students, college, and community stakeholders have access to and are
aware of financial support resources and provides guidance on state and federal laws and regulations related to financial aid administration.

Duties

1. Regularly participates in system office, state, and federal training, webinars, and meetings to stay informed of practices, regulations, and laws related to state aid and federal aid. Develops, implements, and revises procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state law, and institutional financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures.
2. Maintains effective student-centered financial aid communications. Ensures communications reflect current compliance with federal and state regulations, including but not limited to, the accuracy of policies and processes, and the integrity of consumer information. Uses professional judgment and problem-solving skills in the administration of financial aid programs as
appropriate to the student’s circumstances.
3. Maintains the College’s financial aid data and ensures timely and accurate submission of required federal, state, and local reports and funding requests.
4. Ensure that financial aid processes such as Return to Title IV, disbursements, awarding of aid, verifications, and federal/state reports are processed on time.
5. Oversees and assists in the supervision training, professional development, and ongoing staff management, including timely feedback and annual performance reviews.
6. Conducts regular audits and eligibility checks of student records and files to maintain accuracy and policy compliance.
7. Monitors the College’s student loan default rate and implements effective default management strategies. Develops and implements a comprehensive loan default management and financial literacy program.
8. Develops and administers financial aid policies and procedures.
9. Schedules and conducts informational meetings, workshops, and events with current and future students, staff, and community members to promote knowledge and understanding of financial aid resources, policies, and procedures.
10. Contributes to the College Vision, Mission, Values, and RISE statement.
11. Supports workforce diversity in all its aspects.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
