  • Five years full-time field experience as a firefighter.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Fire Science/Administration, EMS, or Public Administration
  • Community college experience
  • 5 years of experience teaching adults
  • Completion of Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET)
  • Current IFSAC/NC Fire Instructor III

Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Director of Fire/Rescue and Law Enforcement Inservice Training is responsible for the development, delivery, and administration of the Fire/Rescue and Law Enforcement In-service course offerings.  The director will meet with students on a regular basis, assist with designing a comprehensive marketing plan for program promotion, maintain a budget; providing documentation of program successes; hire and supervise qualified instructors, conduct class visits, purchase and inventory instructional supplies and equipment, develop course materials and work closely with community partners and organizations.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate administrative staff and program instructors
  • Ensures compliance with internal auditing requirements for course paperwork
  • Assists with internal audits in order to ensure compliance through quality record keeping
  • Visit classes on campus and off campus in compliance with the BCC Accountability & Credibility Plan
  • Performs strategic planning and management of program areas
  • Develops and writes policies and procedures for all program areas
  • Takes immediate action to correct error or deficiencies that occur in the program areas
  • Initiate innovative and strategic methods of communication with faculty, staff, and students to increase and maintain student enrollment
  • Responds to student, faculty, and staff inquiries regarding student records and credential completion
  • Ensures compliance with criteria outlined in third party accreditation standards
  • Foster good relationships and planning with advisory groups
  • Participates on various internal and external committees
  • Routinely advises students on career opportunities in emergency services
  • Attends routine one-on-one meetings with your supervisor.
  • Coordinates Fire Prevention Inspection and other Code Enforcement courses in partnership with Senior Director of Workforce Development
  • Works with Director of Customized Training to offer confined space, hazardous materials, and CPR courses to  business and industry partners
  • Proposes and manages program budgets
  • Responsible for purchasing equipment to enhance instructional needs
  • Works with NCCCS public safety advisory committees to steer future statewide training initiatives
  • Ensure instructional materials comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines
  • Leads annual AED, fire extinguisher, and evacuation chair training for faculty and staff
  • Interact and communicate effectively with various groups and individuals to include the President, Vice President, college supervisors, business office staff, vendors, students, sponsors, grantors, state personnel, and external auditors
  • Routinely monitors performance pass rate measures and ensures continual improvement of pass rates
  • Develops a program marketing plan to thoroughly advertise courses
  • Responsible for managing and updating social media pages to advertise courses
  • Ensures all programs are conducted safely according to internal and external policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

FIRE/RESCUE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as Fire Rescue School Director & maintains program accountability according to North Carolina Fire & Rescue Commission Policies & Procedures
  • Coordinate with local fire departments to address their training needs and foster new initiatives
  • Responsible for administration of written exams for fire/rescue certification programs including: printing exams, preparing exam packets, grading exams, retesting exams, and reporting grades
  • Ensures OSFM student transcripts are routinely and accurately updated
  • Schedules proctors for written exams at local fire departments
  • Proctors exams at local fire departments
  • Teaches occasional fire/rescue certification courses
  • Manages the College & Career Promise Firefighter program for high school students and recruits new students to the program
  • Attends bi-monthly Brunswick County Fire Chief’s Association meetings
  • Maintains and inventories fire training equipment trailer
  • Works with fire/rescue advisory committee to design annual fire training weekend school
  • Coordinates with local fire departments to develop recruitment initiatives for new firefighters

LAW ENFORCEMENT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the in-service law enforcement training program
  • Responsible for managing the Detention Officer certification program
  • Routinely interacts with BLET School Director
  • Schedules law enforcement professional development and training opportunities
  • Routinely interacts with local police agencies to address in-service law enforcement needs
  • Maintains excellent rapport with Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office
