Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; 3 years related experience and or training
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral written communication. Ability to read, analyzes, and intercept general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • North Carolina Community College experience
  • Master’s Degree in Adult Education

Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under weekly supervision, is responsible for the development, planning, implementation, supervision, evaluation and continued improvement of Gateway to Employment and Academic Readiness. (G.E.A.R.) (ABE/HSE/AHS/ESL). Maintains an up to date program documentation system, coordinating the effective recruitment and selection of program staff, developing and implementing professional development for staff locally and in conjunction with the NCCCS, as well as ensuring student recruitment, retention, graduation, and transitions to post-secondary education.

 

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

  • Supervise instructors and evaluates curriculum associated with classes offered through college and career readiness initiatives.
  • Recommends appropriate expenditures related to curriculum, software, practice tests, materials, etc.
  • Maintains a system of accurate, up-to-date documentation and reporting to colleagues and the NCCCS.
  • Supervises retention specialists and their implementation of the program’s retention plan.
  • Coordinates recruitment training, professional development, and evaluation of instructional and support personnel for employment.  Provides routine professional development workshops for all instructional staff.
  • Evaluates the quality of instruction and documentation within ABE/GED/AHS/ESL/ classes. 
  • Oversees the GED® Testing Center.
  • Acts as a resource to higher level administration.  Develops and prepares recommendations and presentations for quality improvement within Foundational Studies.
  • Identifies and recruits’ students through community events, speaking engagements, and marketing opportunities.
  • Assists with grant writing and implementation of special initiatives.
  • Attends staff meetings and communicates information relevant to College & Career Readiness program guidelines, procedures, and activities to the Dean of Cont. Education/Workforce Development
  • Attends local and regional workshops to gain information and professional growth.
  • Maintains a current working knowledge of standardized testing, National Reporting Standards, Federal Educational Functioning Levels (EFL’s), ADA legislation, testing accommodations, and NCCCS Basic Skills Policy Manual
