Position Description

DEFINITION:

 

The purpose of this position is to oversee the development of grant applications and proposals with faculty/staff and administrators, to research and identify potential grant sources consistent with the mission of the College, and to keep the administration, faculty and staff informed of these opportunities. The primary purposes of this function are: to oversee the grants office and write proposals; to serve as the Authorized Organization Representative for federal grants; to initiate cooperative writing efforts that bring teams of faculty, staff, and administrators together to plan and write proposals to external sources consistent with the mission of the College; to meet with grant sources at the local, state, and national levels; to work collaboratively with other colleges/agencies to form grant partnerships; to track proposals from pre-award to award/funding; and to provide comprehensive grant reports.

 

This position requires use of diplomacy and good judgment, as well as excellent writing and basic budgeting skills.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives supervision from the Vice President, Business Services
  • Exercises staff supervision over grant personnel.

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Identify potential funding sources for the college, and prepare and maintain a calendar of due dates for potential funding sources.
  • Research grantors for consideration.
  • Serve as the Authorized Organization Representative for federal grants.
  • Initiate cooperative writing efforts that bring teams of faculty, staff, and administrators together to develop funding proposals that address college mission and needs, and that respond to the interest of funding sources.
  • Prepare and Submit Proposal forms.
  • Maintain files of grant proposals including grant agreements, award letters, submittals etc. 
  • Maintain records on funding sources and grant writing.
  • Work collaboratively with other colleges/agencies to form grant partnerships.
  • Meet with external grant sources at the local, state, and national level.
  • Work in conjunction with the Vice President of Business Services and Vice President of Advancement and the Arts to secure matching monies and in-kind contributions as related to external funding.
  • Collect and disseminate information about funding opportunities to faculty and staff; and promote grant opportunities and the proposal development process.

 

General Expectations:

  • Due to the variety of tasks involved in this position, it is critical that this position works with a great deal of independence and with sound judgment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects.??
  • Perform support work as assigned including special projects, special reports, responses to inquiries, etc.
  • Serve on committees as assigned.
  • Maintain relationships with College administrators, faculty, staff and students that are of significance to the grant development function.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Skills/Abilities: 

Successful candidate must possess exceptional problem-solving, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills; have the ability to perform highly detail-oriented work with a critical degree of accuracy regarding data entry and analysis.  Must practice good interpersonal and organizational skills, prioritize tasks, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously while adhering to deadlines; take responsibility, work well as a team member, while also working independently. Must be able to understand and follow directions and complex policies and procedures; review and analyze data problems and suggest changes to data entry procedures in order to minimize data reporting errors; and handle confidential data.

 

Ability To:

  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Think critically to maintain accuracy in complex documentation, as well as identify inconsistencies and inaccuracies in systems and databases
