MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- Five years of professional work experience directly related to the job duties in the areas of grant proposal and development, grant administration, and compliance required.
- Working knowledge of Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (Uniform Guidance) for Federal Grants
- Demonstrated success as a principal writer of funded grants required.
- Professional work experience within a non-profit or higher education setting required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include off-shift hours, evenings, and weekends, required.
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Generally works in a traditional climate-controlled office environment and requires the ability to sit for extended periods.
- Some walking, standing, and bending required, and the ability to lift and maneuver items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- The work environment can be stressful at times in dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines.
- In addition to regular office hours, the position sometimes requires overtime and/or weekend/evening hours.
Master’s degree preferred.

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director- Grants & Special Projects provides leadership, coordination, writing, and technical assistance for grant development and management throughout the College. The Director- Grants & Special Projects collaborates with College faculty and staff, the College Foundation, business and community partners to develop and acquire federal, state, local, and private sector grants in support of College priorities. Manage special projects to support advance the mission of Gaston College and the Gaston College Foundation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to successfully compete for grant funds in support of plans for new and improved programs and services at the College. Support grant managers and monitor the progress of grant-funded projects to ensure successful implementation in accordance with grant contract terms and agency requirements.
- Write and edit grant proposals; research institutional and funding agency policies to ensure proposed activities and budgets are in accordance with the College’s policies and funding agency’s requirements.
- Support the development of strategic partnerships with business and industry, educational institutions, economic development and community-based agencies; facilitate external partnership meetings; lead partnership development activities; negotiate roles, duties, and contributions; draft agreements, subcontracts, and other documents.
- Evaluate requests for funding opportunities, research supporting data and best practices, analyze funding agency’s requirements, and anticipate the College’s competitive position for each opportunity.
- Serve as final check-off for all proposals on campus prior to presentation to the College President for approval and final submission.
- Direct project planning and proposal development activities for grant teams to include but not limited to meeting with Deans, Department Chairs, and other stakeholders to discuss program plans and lead the development of strategies for grant funds; direct cross-functional teams in developing proposals for new and enhanced programs and services; assist with setting project goals, objectives, timelines, budgets and sustainability.
- Support and monitor grant-funded projects to include, but not limited to, leading grant orientation meetings for assigned grant management teams; conduct training for new grant/project managers; serve as a point-of-contact with funding agencies for assigned teams and direct any revisions to an awarded grant contract with the support of the College’s Business Office.
- As a member of the grant leadership team, support and educate grant managers and other responsible parties about their duties in managing and administering grants to ensure performance and compliance with grant specifications.
- Monitor progress toward project goals, objectives, outcomes, deliverables, and all other contract terms for assigned teams through regular communication and meetings; research institutional and funding agency’s policies to ensure implementation and budgets are in compliance.
- Monitor and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of College-wide support services for grant managers; identify gaps and recommend specific improvements to ensure successful implementation.
- Support the Development Officer in the planning of federal funding strategies, priority and special projects, and periodic reports to the President and Foundation leadership
- Perform a wide variety of other support and analytical duties related to government relations and grants as assigned.
- Participate on various College committees, and community and professional organizations as requested.
- Actively participate in other departmental activities including, but not limited to, annual planning process, strategic planning, annual work plan, staff retreats, professional development, budgeting, policies and procedures review.
- Contribute to monthly meetings with departmental staff to track grant implementation progress and ensure effective and timely grant support and monitoring; provide quarterly reports on the progress of grant-funded projects to the Development Officer and College administration.
