  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in International Education, World Language, Cultural Studies or related field
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience supporting or participating in an international education program
  • Study, employment or residence in another country or extensive travel outside the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading campus internationalization efforts
  • Participation in activities at a community college which involved developing relationships with international students or which provided cross-cultural experiences
  • Experience leading and/or managing study abroad programs
  • Experience managing staff and a budget
  • Experience globalizing curriculum
  • Experience designing culturally enriching events
  • Familiarity with the NC Global Distinction program
  • Experience with COIL (virtual exchange)
  • Knowledge of higher education trends in international education
  • Bilingual

What you’ll do on a typical day:

The Director of International Education leads and facilitates the College's comprehensive internationalization efforts by creating a culture of international awareness, inspiring the integration of international education in courses and programs, and building cultural competence through diverse perspectives and new experiences.

Essential job responsibilities:

  • Oversee and direct International Education staff, programs, and activities including, but not limited to the supervision of Fulbright scholars, oversight of Global Scholars program, globalization of curriculum through strategic partnerships with academics, leadership of study abroad programs, and planning and implementation of weekly cultural events
  • Engage the College community in developing and participating in international initiatives which support the development of global awareness
  • Lead the development of institutional policies and processes around international opportunities
  • Host international guests and students on campus including, but not limited to developing itineraries and events, arranging for housing and transportation, providing orientations, and coordinating trips to the airport, DMV, bank, etc.
  • Research and assess future international engagements and initiatives which the College should be considering, including, but not limited to foreign exchanges, travel abroad, cultural experiences, curriculum changes, and federal program opportunities
  • Assist in student recruitment and retention, through the College’s international partners
  • Maintain contacts with business, industry, and professional organizations for the purpose of keeping international engagement in the forefront in Davidson and Davie counties, to include, but not limited to international travel, exchange opportunities, economic development and cultural enhancement
  • Develop budgetary strategies for international initiatives through the College foundation, other partners, and grants including research, writing and budget management
  • Maintain all budgets associated with international initiatives
  • Assist in the evaluation of International Education programs and determine areas for growth, improvement and future development
  • Serve as committee chair for the International Education Committee, maintaining an appropriate membership, assuring attendance, and evaluating the level of engagement and effectiveness of the committee annually
  • Oversee Davidson-Davie International’s social media accounts and assist in the development of promotional materials
  • Represent the college at professional and community organizations. Participates in related professional conferences, in-service and college activities.
  • Some evening and weekend work is required and some domestic and international travel is required.
  • Supports the mission, vision, and values of the College.
  • Serves on college committees, councils and task forces as appropriate
  • Performs other tasks as assigned that support and advance the College and student success.
  • Maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.
