Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution
  • Five years of responsible library experience, with at least two years in a supervisory role
  • Experience using an automated library system

Position Description

Under limited supervision, the Director leads and organizes the operations of the college library services including cataloging, reference, circulation, acquisition, discarding of books and other materials, management of print periodicals and databases, and information literacy instruction. Exercises supervision over library staff.

Job Functions:

  • Lead and participate in a variety of library functions
  • Advise and assist library patrons; answer general reference questions; demonstrate the use of the online library catalog and electronic resources; refer patrons to other offices on campus as appropriate. Assist with procuring interlibrary loans
  • Assist students, faculty, staff and community patrons in using computers, the microfilm reader, photocopier, scanner, and in printing
  • Read reviews on books and other library materials, elicits input from faculty, and selects books and other materials, including print, audiovisual and electronic resources
  • Verify availability of funds and orders library materials
  • Perform copy cataloging of books and other materials according to the North Carolina Community College Library Services procedures and sends items to the System Office Library Services for original cataloging as needed
  • Inspect the condition of resource materials, repair, or in consultation with faculty, discard damaged or worn materials and replace as needed
  • Maintain library website using LibGuides platform
  • Oversee the production of overdue notices and bills for lost items
  • Oversee the processing, shelving and discarding of print periodicals
  • Provide library orientations and information literacy sessions
  • Collaborate with staff, faculty, and community partners to provide library activities for the campus, including open houses, library tours, cultural enrichment workshops and presentations, and book club meetings, which are all made available by the Librarian in both physical and virtual spaces
  • Prepare bibliographies, brochures, flyers and handouts about library services and resources
  • Provide first-level troubleshooting for technical issues with AV equipment within the library, including student study rooms, conference rooms, and classroom space; escalate the issue to IT if necessary
  • Oversee the production of student and employee ID cards
  • Participate in the activities of the circulation area
  • Oversee the submission to the business office of monies collected by the library
  • Train library staff and work study students
  • Maintain library statistics
  • Set up AV equipment in the auditorium as needed
  • Proctor tests
  • Other duties as assigned
