Minimum Qualifications

  • Master of Library Science degree
  • Two years supervisory experience in a library setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Supervise the daily operation of the library including staff scheduling and library coverage.
  • Provide leadership in the selection and application of new technologies intended to enhance library services.
  • Manage all aspects of collection development and evaluation.

Position Description

Provide professional library services to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons in the morning/afternoon (and evening/weekends if necessary).  Service will include reference and directional assistance, circulation of materials, library instruction, collection development, and assistance in the use of the library's electronic resources.  Supervise library operations and library personnel.

DUTIES:

  • Manage all aspects of collection development and evaluation.
  • In conjunction with the faculty participate in the on-going selection and acquisition of library materials and supervise the ordering of materials.
  • Provide reference services and bibliographic instruction to library users, as well as instruction in electronic search media: the Internet and other library databases, such as NC LIVE.
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining library budget.
  • Complete contracts for part-time and full-time library assistants.
  • Conduct annual faculty/student/staff evaluation of library services.
  • Coordinate serials management.
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures and in the development of long-range plans for library services, equipment purchases, and facilities usage.
  • Serve on college committees as requested and participate in library-related professional associations and other professional development activities with particular emphasis on information technology.
  • Be primarily responsible for training and supervising work-study students.
  • Evaluate the SCC Curriculum Review Forms to determine adequate resources to support College programs.
  • Complete reports for IPEDS, Service Learning, and Departmental Initiative Plan.
  • Organize the Reader’s Roundtable Book Club, Student Art Show, and Poetry Slam.
  • Write questions for the County Quiz Bowl.
  • Responsible for creating and updating the Lib Guides.
  • Work with the State to preserve College artifacts. 
  • Serve as a college representative to the community to promote library patronage.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
