Position Description

Fayetteville Technical Community College is seeking qualified applicants for this full-time position to plan and implement effective information literacy instruction, reference, and circulation services and programs, and the preparation of all resources for library use. Work in conjunction with staff and faculty to provide excellent support and reference services to students, faculty, and staff in the community college setting; assist in the collection development of library materials in a variety of formats; teach information literacy instruction and orientation classes that showcase the various databases and other library resources; assist in the collection development of library materials in a variety of formats. Responsible for planning, budget, and staffing in support of the academic, instructional and information needs of faculty, students and staff.  Qualified candidates will possess excellent computer skills, demonstrate evidence of flexible work experiences and willingness to change; open-mindedness, fairness and the ability to see multiple perspectives; a willingness to take risks, and willingness to accept responsibility for professional and personal growth. 

Duties

Develop, plan, implement, and administer goals, objectives, and procedures related to the College’s library and services; develop and implement new or modified programs and procedures. Interpret and implement College policies.
 
Develop, recommend, and administer the library’s budgets; forecast and recommend additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures.
 
Supervise, train, motivate, and evaluate assigned staff; establish and monitor employee performance objectives; prepare and present employee performance appraisals; provide or coordinate staff training.
 
Participate in the selection of library and student learning center personnel; interview applicants and recommend candidate for hire.
 
Oversee and coordinate the administrative operations within the library; monitor and evaluate workload; develop and implement policies and procedures.
 
Evaluate library collections and services.
 
Develop policies and priorities for the acquisition of library materials; solicit the recommendations of faculty and staff; review publicity materials and evaluations; determine final selection of acquisitions.
 
Coordinate and direct efforts to automate library services and activities.
 
Provide leadership, oversight, and strategic vision to shape the future of the college archive.

Develop and implement procedures that enhance growth of and access to college archive.
 
Maintain awareness of best practices and emerging standards/technologies and its familiar with intellectual property issues related to the physical and digital preservation of archival materials.

Coordinate and direct the availability of archival versions of catalogs.
 
Coordinate with Cumberland County Library for support to FTCC students at the Spring Lake Branch Library.
 
Serve on a variety of committees and task forces; research and develop recommendations related to both the academic and administrative affairs of the College.
 
Coordinate assigned programs and activities with faculty, other College departments and off-site facilities.
 
Build and maintain current subject knowledge in applicable academic subjects.

Perform a variety of professional librarian duties; provide technical staff assistance as needed.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Ability to:

Develop and implement library and student learning programs and services applicable to the needs of College students, faculty, and other users. 
 
Administer the activities, services, and operations of a College library. 
 
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 
 
Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals. 
 
Train, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff. 
 
Interpret and apply College policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. 

Prepare, analyze, and recommend appropriate recommendations related to College academic and administrative affairs. 
 
Maintain effective work relationships with students, outside organizations, and College academic and administrative staff.
