Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Human Services or related field; and 5-7 years related experience.
Master's degree or years of relevant experience in the community college system.
Incumbents are responsible for managing student services within their assigned area.
Responsibilities may include:
reviewing and balancing budgets, designing programs for students, providing leadership and guidance to staff; ensuring consistency and compliance with policies and procedures. providing information on academic requirements and processes, maintaining confidential records; and overseeing daily operations, including staffing and personnel issues.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Plans adult literacy programs; decides which areas to change or improve and what grants or outside sources to approach; determines areas of staff development; prepares one-year plans and priorities. Assesses need versus budgetary availability, analyzing projections and comparing to FTE receipts; assesses supplemental funding opportunities; researches and writes, or directs writing of, grants; evaluates expenditures of program sections; makes adjustments as needed.
Coordinates activities of different sections of Literacy Program to promote cohesiveness and continuity; coordinates with other parts of ACC for smoother operations; coordinates with other community agencies to promote cooperation and improved services for students; coordinates with industries to maintain level of support for programs and students; coordinates with state level of NCCCS to maintain communications and program integrity; coordinates with state level of other agencies to maintain communication and encourage interagency dialogue and cooperation.
Collects and studies internal and external information to review student, staff, and community needs, program effectiveness, funding sufficiency, and for future program improvement.
Selects, supervises, directs, trains, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
Provides direction/leadership to staff in Literacy Program; provides leadership in current educational trends, changes, breakthroughs, and technologies; evaluates program operation outputs effectiveness for implementation of improvements; makes decisions of benefits to students, staff, program, College, and the community.
