• Bachelor's degree in communications studies, public relations, marketing, journalism or related field is required. Must have a minimum 5-7 years’ demonstrated successful experience leading marketing efforts, including progressive supervisory experience. • Must have a robust knowledge of social media, digital content systems management, marketing, advertising, and media relations. • Must possess strong communications leadership, organizational, and analytical skills and demonstrate the ability to solve problems and work in a team-oriented environment. Must demonstrate creativity in designing strategies that achieve growth. • Excellence in fundamental written and oral communications is required; experience in writing for multiple, diverse audiences is strongly preferred. • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours is required. • Ability and willingness to provide quality customer service. • Ability to maintain high degree of confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications • Experience in higher education, particularly with community colleges. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite programs. • Graphic design experience.

Position Description

Job Summary The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for overall college communications, research-based marketing, and branding activity for Mitchell Community College and its affiliated programs. The Director is a key component of the college’s efforts to recruit students and works with the college President and the President’s Council to develop and execute a strategic vision for marketing and communications that coordinates across college divisions. The Director manages a communications office that designs and produces all official publications, properties, external advertising, and other branded content for Mitchell. The Director of Marketing and Communications is the chief liaison to media and serves as the college’s spokesperson. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • In concert with college leadership, design and execute the strategic vision for the college’s integrated marketing and communications functions. • Lead and direct the communications office staff and coordinate across institutional divisions to ensure marketing and communications efforts support the college’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities. • Plan, develop, direct, and administer the College's marketing activities through an integrated approach of internal and external communication, media relations, media buying, social media, advertising production, graphic design, and the website. • Act as the college’s Brand Manager by developing and executing long term marketing strategies designed to promote the College’s mission, and, brand positioning to include advocacy and quality control of the College’s brand and trademarks, internally and externally. Directs the planning, development, editorial content, production, and evaluation of promotional campaigns and college collateral (print, website, electronic). Oversees the ongoing development and maintenance of the College’s external website and campus Intranet to include components for measuring and assessing performance and effectiveness. • Student Enrollment: Works collaboratively with all College departments to strategize development and delivery of a myriad of departmental communication and marketing needs. Works directly with Student Affairs in identifying, developing, and deploying marketing and communications strategies to support the recruitment of prospective students and retention of current students. • Strategic Communications: Provides leadership in the planning, development, and direction of communication strategies and long-range public relations programs. Collaboratively works with College leaders to develop and plan public relations/media relations activities that are designed to elevate public awareness and visibility of the College (locally, regionally, and nationally). Develops and maintains effective working relationships with media representatives. Designs, executes, and manages strategic communication plans for student, employee, crisis, and external communications. Oversees the ongoing development and maintenance of the College’s social media strategy. • Ensure that all college publications, properties, and outlets reflect the community the college serves and the full breadth of diversity its students, faculty, staff, and supporters represent. • Cultivate media interest in the college and ensure regular contact with target media outlets, promoting positive news stories and providing appropriate responses to inquiries. Develop a resource bank promoting subject matter experts in matters consistent with the college’s mission. • Assist with planning and preparation of relevant events and participate on college and community committees as appropriate. • Oversee the production of regular, internal communications designed to share information to college employees. • Develop short and long-term plans and budgets for the college’s marketing and communications efforts and manage those budgets annually. • Design evaluation systems and benchmarks related to the office’s strategic vision and report progress to the Vice President of Student Services. • Work with the Office for Advancement staff in the production of related fundraising, alumni relations, and community relations materials and events. • Ensure all communications meet the compliance of relevant college, state, and federal policies. • Perform other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear, taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
