Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, communications, journalism, business or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience in working with the entire Adobe Creative Suite

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated successful experience in a marketing role.

Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:

  • Demonstrated successful experience in a marketing role within higher education, performing arts, or another similar field.
  • Graphic design knowledge and experience in an administrative and creative role.

Understanding of and experience in working with the Adobe Creative Suite.

Position Description

DEFINITION

To oversee marketing and public relations efforts for the Wilson Center; To hire, train, and supervise full-time Communications Manager and part-time Marketing Assistants.  

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: 

This position serves as the creative, strategic, detail-oriented, self-starter marketing leader for the Wilson Center, and other duties as assigned.   This role advances the organization in meeting and maximizing its earned income goals, along with maintaining the highest level of services and support for artist/agency/guest/client relationships.  This position is pivotal in realizing increased earned revenue through ticket sales, subscriptions, rentals, and other audience engagement events/partnerships, as well as overseeing a powerful educational experience for our student engagement operations program. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

  • Receives general direction and supervision from the Senior Managing Director of the Wilson Center. 
  • Exercises direct supervision over Communications Manager, and part-time Marketing Assistants.

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS 

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Ensure that all marketing and public relations procedures and projects are in compliance with the CFCC Marketing Office.
  • Monitor the appropriate use of the College’s and Center’s names, marketing brands, trademarks, etc., and ensuring compliance with the College’s associated policies. 
  • Develop and implement annual and long-range marketing strategy and plans for programs and facility rentals.
  • Manage the implementation of area budget and marketing plans that articulate focused and diverse efforts to meet or exceed earned revenue goals. 
  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with audiences using traditional and innovative communication and retention techniques, including e-newsletters and social media.
  • Continued research of industry-standards and best practices in regards to arts marketing. 
  • Continue to grow audiences by utilizing technology and resources which enable streamlined and targeted marketing
  • Oversee coordination of publicity, photography/videography, and generate media exposure through general press releases and focused pitches.
  • Build and sustain strategic marketing partnerships and cross-promotions with community organizations and for-profit businesses in the Cape Fear region and beyond as appropriate.
  • Manage student internship and graduate assistants as assigned.
  • Oversee Center assessment initiatives.
  • With Director of Ticketing, ensure and track accurate financial and attendance reporting and reconciliation for single tickets, subscriptions, and group sales.
  • Enact a flexible and strategic dynamic pricing model
  • Plan and implement group sales, special audience engagement events.
  • Oversee marketing copy and strategies in print, digital, radio, television and other media.
  • Oversee development, design, and distribution of all print pieces, including season brochures, mailings, playbills, lobby signage, and door perfs.
  • Supervise the Communications Manager’s work with the Center Facebook page, Twitter account, YouTube page, and all other social media accounts.
  • Maintain all virtual community calendars and presences.
  • Develop and distribute press releases.
  • Develop and implement marketing services for resident arts organizations.
  • Develop strategies, partnerships, and marketing plans with area businesses and other arts organizations.
  • Support membership and ad marketing.
  • Maintain Center archives. 
  • Implement trade agreements and sponsorship agreements in conjunction with Corporate and Strategic Partnerships Coordinator.
  • Develop Curriculum Connections with Community Outreach and Engagement Coordinator.
  • Develop outreach program documents.
  • Develop marketing media assets for the Center.
  • Manage and maintain appropriate signage for internal and external wayfinding and ensure brand compliance.
  • Create innovative, unified signage and marketing campaigns to advance educational mission of the Center.
  • Coordinate Street Team efforts for direct marketing.
  • Develop strategic plan for marketing execution efforts.
