Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, Engineering or a related field in the construction or facility management industry and/or any equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Four to seven years of leadership and management experience in a large institutional or residential setting. Significant experience scheduling and providing field direction to professional skilled and semi-skilled employees.

Knowledge and Skills:

Ability to handle multiple projects at one time. Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to explain technical issues to professional, skilled, and semi-skilled audiences. Skilled in conflict resolution and customer service. Working awareness of federal, state, and local, regulations and codes.

Physical Demands:  Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work. Must be physically able to exert up to fifty pounds of force occasionally.

Licensing Requirement:  Valid N.C. driver’s license.  HVAC, Electrical or General Contractor’s licensure preferred.

Position Description

Carteret Community College is accepting applications for a full-time Director of Operations and Facilities position. Minimum Salary:  $66,071 per year

The Director of Operations and Facilities provides vision and leadership for the operations and facilities department. Oversees the strategic operational, developmental planning and implementation for all campus facilities and departmental functions that support the mission of the college. Plans, directs, and represents the college on campus safety, construction and renovation projects. Provides highly responsible and detailed collaboration and reporting to the College.

Examples of Essential Duties:

  • Provide innovative leadership, vision, planning, training opportunities, supervision and evaluation for all personnel and services provided by Plant Operations.
  • Collaborate with the President and CFO on county operations and capital budgets, resulting in a spending plan reflective of the college's strategic plan.
  • Develop and implement short and long-range operational and facility goals to support the planned development of the College
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend improvements to the College's buildings and grounds, including the Facilities Master Plan.
  • Supervise the negotiation and administration of facility contracts with outside vendors and contractors; review completed projects for contract compliance and take appropriate action to address differences.
  • Participate in and direct a wide variety of special projects and activities as assigned by the President; coordinate staff activities and tasks necessary to complete project assignments.
  • Serves as the College’s Capital Projects Coordinator and oversees Interscope and HUD project requirements.
  • Advise the President of the College on matters related to facilities and operations.
  • Participate on the President’s leadership Team in making leadership decisions.
  • Collaborate with other leadership and departments as necessary to achieve College's mission and strategic direction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President

 

Performs work in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments with moderate exposure to noises, odors and a variety of weather conditions.  Must be able to respond to situations that arise during holidays, weekends, or evenings, including being on-call after normal business hours.
