Position Description

Reports to: Executive Vice President

Alamance Community College exists to provide comprehensive educational programs and services to advance our diverse population and empower lifelong learners to succeed as global citizens. ACC’s vision is to transform lives and communities by providing access to all citizens of Alamance County and focusing on the success of all students. The Director of Public Information and Marketing plays a central role in advancing this mission and vision, increasing enrollment, and strengthening ACC’s reputation in the community and the state. ACC seeks a charismatic, innovative professional with experience in public relations and marketing to drive the development and implementation of a creative and effective marketing and communications plan.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has a successful record of accomplishment in moving marketing and communications projects forward, coordinating multiple projects simultaneously, and developing forward-thinking strategies.
  • Has excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to produce high-quality communications quickly.
  • Is a role model who demonstrates respectful behavior with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Is highly skilled in contemporary public and media relations and in social media and other digital technologies.
  • Understands organizational systems.
  • Has experience in crisis communications.
  • Is skilled in diversity-related communications.
  • Is already or is willing to become an engaged, contributing supporter of Alamance County.
  • Has at least five years of related experience.
  • Possess a master’s degree in communication, journalism, or a related field.

 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Plans, organizes, and directs strategies and activities related to the College’s public information, public relations, marketing, and branding functions: collaborates with faculty and staff to identify and implement an appropriate media mix including social media applications; uses research and analytics; develops and administers budgets, and negotiates and enforces contracts.
  • Supervises staff: prioritizes and assigns work; conducts performance evaluations; coordinates and conducts staff training; and implements hiring, discipline, and termination procedures as needed.
  • Oversees and coordinates the College’s media relations activities: schedules press conferences; facilitates interviews; creates or edits press releases; coaches faculty, staff and other participants for media interviews and appearances; and builds partnerships.
  • Develops internal and external marketing and communications materials to promote College programs: writes and edits content for print, audio or video; evaluates publications and marketing collateral; develops marketing and communications plans in conjunction with faculty and staff; and prepares speeches, talking points, reports and presentations.
  • Collaborates with College employees to create and maintain a unified, coherent brand in College publications and materials.
  • In collaboration with the College’s Emergency Coordination Group, spearheads College communications during campus closings and emergencies; serves as the President’s liaison as needed.  
  • Maintains a positive and dynamic presence in the community, including internal events and activities as well as external events in which the College is participating.
  • Serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
