Minimum Qualifications

BA/BS in Child Development/Family Relations, Early Childhood Education or Special Education. Three years’ experience working with young children in an educational setting.  Previous administration/management/supervisory experience.  Meet NCDHHS Division of Child Development and Early Education requirements for the Center Director position (see below). Must possess excellent communications, problem solving, and computer skills.  Experience in working with a budget.  Previous teaching and/or center director experience may be considered in lieu of education requirement but not credential/certification requirement.  Must have or be able to obtain Level III Administrator Certification;
Education Requirements for Child Care Administrators
All Child Care Center Administrators must have the North Carolina Early Childhood Administration Credential (NCECAC) or its equivalent. Administrators must enroll within six months of being hired and will have two years from their date of hire to satisfy the NCECAC or equivalency requirements.  

Preferred Qualifications

Current Level III Administrator Certification; 3 years' experience in center management and supervising credentialed teachers in a state approved/regulated center.

Position Description

Primary Purpose

The Director is responsible for providing leadership, staff management and development, facility management,  marketing and community outreach, fiscal responsibility, and overall direction of the Regional Center for the Advancement of Children.

The Regional Center for the Advancement of Children is a 5 star rated state-of-the-art child care facility operated by Haywood Community College serving children ages 6 weeks – 60 months.

Essential Duties

  • Supervising the care, safety and well being of all children enrolled in the center at all times.
  • Supervising, planning, budgeting, and implementing the daily program and activities for children and staff.
  • Understanding appropriate programming necessary for age appropriate activities for children.
  • Understanding of and ability to demonstrate use of Creative Curriculum
  • Planning and maintaining a center environment which is conducive to the growth and development of the children while conforming to all health and safety requirements.
  • Insuring that all children’s transportation plans meet North Carolina licensure requirements for safety.
  • Furthering knowledge and understanding of the needs of children by participating in staff development activities and attending conferences and workshops.
  • When necessary, teaching a group of children and planning and carrying out daily activities in coordination with other center staff.
  • Being knowledgeable of the community resources and agencies and the resources and services that they have available for the center and the families it serves.
  • Determining needed equipment and supplies and requisitioning them from his/her supervisor.
  • Being responsible for meal and snack planning, supervision of the serving of meals and the purchasing of needed supplies for meals.
  • Maintaining necessary records and reports concerning the operation of the center which includes:  enrollment/attendance, parent fee collections, required food participation forms, daily menu forms, time sheets, and travel reimbursement forms.
  • Obtaining all necessary paperwork on new staff.
  • Maintaining all necessary records for the children enrolled in the center.
  • Maintaining all personnel records necessary for employment with HCC RCAC.
  • Being responsible for obtaining needed substitutes.
  • Being knowledgeable of and adhering to the Civil Rights Compliance Act and HCC RCAC’s Confidentiality Policy.
  • Maintaining compliance with North Carolina licensing regulations at all times.
  • Supervising and training all staff/volunteers that work in the center.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with children, parents, staff and the community.
  • Conducting one’s self in a professional manner.
  • Performing other duties as necessary.

  • Child and Adult Care Food Program
  • Operation of college owned vehicles. 
  • Other duties as assigned by VP of Business Operations or necessary to meet any requirement for agency licensing.
