Minimum Qualifications

Associate Degree in a Technical Field required. A Bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement, Management, Business or Public Administration or a closely related field preferred.
Basic Law Enforcement Training certified or a law enforcement background.
5-years law enforcement /security experience required.
Supervisory Experience required.
Experience with Microsoft Office software products, i.e. word, excel. 10. Experience with security procedures
Must possess a valid NC driver's license
Accessible to all campus locations for emergencies
Familiar with North Carolina Community College System.

Position Description

Summary:

The Director of Safety & Security serves as the leader for the College to maintain safety for all campuses and the supervisor of the security staff. The Director is also responsible for maintaining emergency procedures, developing safety plans as needed and assuring that MCC is following ADA, OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
Provides direction and supervision to the Assistant Director of Security.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supervises security personnel in the performance of security functions.
  • Coordinates the activities of security, safety, and related functions at all campus locations.
  • Administers the Door Access System for keyless entry and lockdown protocols.
  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates all phases of the College's fire, safety, and security operations.
  • Ensures that College's established safety and security policies and procedures, and the Emergency Action Plan are updated, implemented, and maintained.
  • Ensures that reports on fire, safety, and security are submitted on a timely basis, and that necessary work orders or other pertinent data on deficiencies are reported to maintenance or other departments as required.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of the Facilities and equipment locations to conduct or coordinate fire, safety, and security inspections to identify problems.
  • Investigate and develop recommended solutions to problems in coordination with College Administration and implement/follow-up on approved recommendations.
  • Conducts and performs loss of assets investigations.
  • Coordinates all matters involving parking and related matters.
  • Maintains and operates the College's Security and Safety Office.
  • Develops and publishes annual safety management goals, objectives, and training.
  • Collects accident and injury data, including conducting accident investigations and coordinates all aspects of fire prevention and protection programs when applicable.
  • Serve as Chair of the MCC Safety Committee, scheduling meetings on a quarterly basis.
  • Maintains, updates and communicates facility disaster and contingency plans.
  • Meets with outside agencies and responds to deficiencies.
  • Maintain and report required Clery Act data to US Department of Education.
  • Create training programs for College and security personnel.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Vice President for Accounting/CFO
  • Prepares, submits, and publishes the College’s Annual Security Report.
  • Establishes and maintains up-to-date Memorandums of Understanding with Statesville and Mooresville P.D. and other law enforcement jurisdictions where College services are provided.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Ability to plan, assign, and direct the work of subordinate employees engaged in various aspects of fire, safety, and security operations required.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions and to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and state laws regarding accidents and losses of personnel and property preferred.
  • Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with the College community.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Required to stand; walk; sit.  
  • Occasionally required to work in a confined area with little room for movement.  
  • Ability to move between buildings and campus locations.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  
  • May be required to work outdoors inclement weather.
  • May be required to work irregular hours (nights/weekends as needed).
  • Must be able to work flexible and evening hours.
  • Must have a valid North Carolina Driver License.
  • Must be able to drive a car.
