POSITION

Director, Service Programs

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Director of Service Programs is responsible for overseeing the program areas of Emergency Medical Services/Emergency Medical Technician (EMS/EMT), Firefighting, Law Enforcement and Department of Public Safety (DPS) training programs.  The Director will ensure that community needs are met in all these areas and that College resources are managed effectively in providing all required training in the service program areas.  Additionally, this position coordinates other programs as directed by the Dean of Workforce Development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a field related to one or more of the continuing education areas coordinated from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

The Director of Service Programs is responsible for overseeing the program areas of Emergency Medical Services/Emergency Medical Technician (EMS/EMT), Firefighting, Law Enforcement and Department of Public Safety (DPS) training programs.  The Director will ensure that community needs are met in all of these areas and that College resources are managed effectively in providing all required training in the service program areas.  Additionally, this position coordinates other programs as directed by the Dean of Workforce Development.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (List the major functional elements of the position. Under each, describe the required duties, tasks and responsibilities of the work assigned.

  • Provides excellent customer service and assistance to internal and external customers through walk-in, telephone and email
  • Selects, supervises, trains, motivates and evaluates a team of employees that supports the mission, goals and objectives of the College
  • Oversees all program operations, course outline preparations, contract preparation, registration, orientation, instruction, grading and evaluation of all courses in the area of responsibility
  • Recruits, interviews, orients and manages adjuncts for assigned program areas; monitors and evaluates instructor performance
  • Ensures that all Public Safety classes are added to the statewide regional calendar on a routine basis
  • Ensures that assigned coordinators have the tools and equipment necessary to provide quality training to Craven County public service employees
  • Makes required class visits as outlined in the policy for Accountability and Credibility for Workforce Development
  • Prepares program reports and monitors budgets for all assigned courses in the program area
  • Provides coordination with off-site locations, training experiences, and oversees the placement of instructional staff and students at those sites
  • Develops and manages the implementation of local program procedures in training programs
  • Submits the annual budget proposal to cover assigned programs
  • Coordinates other courses as assigned by the Dean of Workforce Development
  • Actively seeks and pursues new courses and opportunities for the Workforce Development Department
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects in support of the College’s mission, core values and goals

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of student financial needs, management methods, practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for delivering class-leading customer services
  • Adult learning theory, concepts and teaching methodology
  • Curriculum design and development
  • Knowledge of college programs, services and procedures relating to workforce development programs
