Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Education Administration or related field.
2. Demonstrated experience in business management.
3. Excellent written and oral communication and human resource skills.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Master’s degree preferred.
2. Experience in small business ownership preferred
3. Experience with business counseling preferred.
4. Teaching/training background preferred.

 

Position Description

  1. Responsible for promoting economic development through the delivery of quality training programs and through services and resources that support existing small businesses and entrepreneurs in the college’s service area.
  2. Responsible for delivering high quality programs and services and supporting the growth of existing business and development of new business by being a community based provider of training, counseling, and business information. Responsible to achieve the mission and objective of the Small Business Center Network by increasing the success rate and number of profitable businesses in North Carolina.
  3. Responsible for planning, organizing, developing, marketing, supervising, and administering Small Business Center programs and courses offered to the citizens within the college’s service area of Burke County.
  4. Responsible for establishing and maintaining open communications and a cooperative working relationship with the general public, groups, agencies, boards, other institutions, businesses, and industries to achieve the goals and objectives of the Division.
  5. Responsible for formulating, developing, and recommending programs, policies, and procedures and other matters relating to the development and operation of the Division to the Dean of Workforce Development & Continuing Education.
  6. Responsible for the overall operation of the Small Business Center, including setting up classes in the core curriculum, recruiting, interviewing, and hiring instructional personnel, marketing, scheduling class location, all written and oral communication, and maintenance of SBC Resource Library. Responsible to perform these duties in accordance with the Small Business Center Network Guidelines.
  7. Procure materials, supplies, equipment, and instructional aids.
  8. Develop, and assist in developing, course formats and course content.
  9. Secure facilities for conducting courses and programs.
  10. Prepare, design, and distribute informative, timely, and promotional materials for marketing SBC and Occupational Extension programs.
  11. Facilitate design, printing, and mailing of new semester course offerings for Workforce Development & Continuing Education Division (three times annually: Fall, Spring, and Summer Semesters).
  12. Visit classes as required by college policy.
  13. Serve as member of college committees as appointed.
  14. Serve as member of community boards and committees as needed to maintain professional working relationship with partnering entities, i.e., Burke County Chamber of Commerce, Burke County United Way, Smart Start/Partnership for Children, etc.
  15. Assume other duties as delegated by the Dean of Workforce Development & Continuing Education.
