Minimum Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree in Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance and five or more years of successful business experience in an ownership or executive management capacity. 

SBC Directors shall disclose if they have been a principle officer or owner for any business which filed bankruptcy within the past 7 years.

Preferred Qualifications

Meet minimum requirements and hold an advanced degree in Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or law.

Position Description

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

To assist aspiring entrepreneurs in planning prior to opening a business in Haywood County and to assist Haywood County business owners in planning for business expansion or in problem-solving some aspect of operations.  

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Provide one-on-one confidential counseling to aspiring entrepreneurs and established small business owners
  • Keep current and adhere to SBCN guidelines that provide a framework for service delivery
  • Maintain client assistance counseling reports
  • Supervise data entry for state system electronic records (Datatel/Ellucian and Center EX)
  • Maintain current data entry for clients in Center EX 
  • Serve on various entrepreneurship committees both internal to the college and externally in the community
  • Promote Small Business Center services internally through class visits as requested and externally in the community
  • Develop and schedule seminars as needed by the business community
  • Create contracts/professional service agreements with seminar presenters
  • Provide seminar welcome and introduction for presenters, as needed
  • Create press releases and send to HCC’s Marketing Office
  • Provide content for SBC website and other online media
  • Provide and maintain a Small Business Resource Center for public accessibility
  • Refer clients to appropriate persons or agencies for further business assistance as necessary
  • Maintain active, positive relationships with business organizations in the community (Chambers, DWA, EDC, etc.)
  • Visit businesses and provide information about the Small Business Center and other programs at HCC
  • Maintain budgets for Small Business Center and the Entrepreneurship special fund
  • Interface with Vocational Rehabilitation to provide business services to clients
  • Provide technical assistance, in partnership with NC Dept. of Revenue, to referred clients facing penalty for tax issues  
  • Act as a technical advisor to NC Rural Center Microenterprise Loan Program (if continued through the Department of Commerce), package loans, and facilitate loan closings
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with all lenders in service area
  • Serve as a representative for the college on corporate Boards in Director or advisory roles 
  • Attend professional development opportunities and SBCN staff development meetings
  • Provide supervision for Small Business Center support staff
  • May operate college-owned vehicles
