Position Description

Job Description - Summary

Coordinate all activities in managing the Small Business Center at Surry Community College, and assist the Director of Business and Industry Services in managing any activities of this segment of Workforce, Technologies & Community Education as required. To provide support to the Director of Elkin Center/ Director of Business and Industry Services and to the Senior Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs as directed. Attend events associated with the promotion of the Small Business Center and the college.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Adhere to the North Carolina Community College System Small Business Center Network Program Guidelines (Revised 2007, Version 12) in administering the Small Business Center activities.

Deliver management and technical assistance to owners, managers, and or prospective entrepreneurs; provide industry-specific training; maintain liaison activity with local and state organizations and/or associations involved in business development and economic growth.

Counsel start-up business owners and provide one-on-one training in specified areas of business plan development.

Review work schedule with supervisor for approval.

Supervise a full-time administrative assistant.

Create and manage an annual budget and mid-year budget analysis.

Maintain and control confidential client data.

Complete and submit state and local reports.

Manage and maintain the SBC Resource Library.

Aid the Director identifying and assessing business and industry’s training and educational needs, developing course outlines, and developing partnerships with business industry clients.

Participate in coordinating the development of educational courses and programs within an area.

Participate in the development and maintenance of SBC Resource Centers to be made available to the general public.

Participate in the SBC Credentialing Program to achieve recommended SBC certification.

Attend community or business functions to represent the college and Business and Industry Services.

Develop and present special reports as requested.

Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.

Additional focus on agribusinesses and tourism-related businesses.

Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Work with the County Register of Deeds to facilitate business referrals.

Work with the three Chambers of Commerce to participate in various business, education and workforce committees.

Participate in various activities such as Business Expos (Showcase Yadkin).

Attend Chamber luncheons and dinners throughout the year.

Attend Chamber Lunch & Learn activities.

Meet with Financial Institutions to educate bankers and business clients regarding the SBC services and resources in order to foster referrals.

Plan, schedule and market training events on topics such as bookkeeping, finance, business planning, marketing, taxes, technology, e-commerce, social media, and other. Provide specialize training classes for businesses such as Airbnb, Non-Profit, AgBiz, Food Trucks, Cosmetologists and other.
