Minimum Qualifications

BA Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Education or other similarly related field; experience as a small business owner or working in a small business.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Education or other similarly related field; experience in adult education/counseling or post graduate studies in adult education counseling; experience as a small business owner; and Career Readiness Credential.

Position Description

Administer all activities of the Small Business Center (SBC); assist prospective and established small businesspersons with utilizing available resources; responsible for expanding the awareness of start-up and sustaining small business education programs. Coordinate occupational extension courses where appropriate. Assist in the development, coordination, and delivery of services directly related to SBC.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Counsel individuals/groups starting or operating a small business to provide business information/resources that will enhance their chances of success.
Develop, present, implement and evaluate small business education programs/workshops and offer custom-designed and more specialized training based on the business community needs and demands.
Identify needed small business activities, plan content and schedule to meet community needs.
Maintain and develop partnerships/collaborations with local chambers of commerce, local school systems, other small business service providers, financial institutions, economic development groups, community-based groups, local governments, entrepreneurial councils, Global TransPark and other state and federal agencies.
Serve as the primary small business/community liaison resource.
Coordinate/instruct REAL (Rural Entrepreneurship through Action Learning).
Develop and maintain a resource/information center containing publications, video tapes, books and accessibility to satellite connection for teleconferences.
Maintain effective partnerships with the North Carolina Network of Small Business Centers.
Represent Edgecombe Community College at appropriate meetings, conferences, councils, boards, community programs, and associations.
Develop all public information concerning the activities/schedules of the Small Business Center.

Market effectively the activities/schedules of the Small Business Center.
Coordinate the American Management Association extension courses, if applicable.
Select, monitor, and evaluate consultants/instructors.
Prepare and control an operational budget.
Submit accurate records/reports on the Small Business Center’s accomplishments.
Develop/maintain a current listing of small businesses in the service area.
Participate in meetings with college personnel and share information.
Continually evaluate activities to maintain high level of quality and up-to-date information.
Maintain working relationship with key people in business community to use as a community support team.
Cooperate with Continuing Education and Curriculum to offer training/educational programs.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Perform instruction as needed.
Assist Business and Industry in developing and maintaining all appropriate documentation for instruction.
Collaborate with the Business and Industry Division in providing services related to small business.
Assist divisional dean with program evaluation and analysis.
