Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of four years of experience at a community college working with or in the Financial Aid Office.
  • Proficiency in working with SCC data systems, i.e., Colleague and the data warehouse

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • Minimum of two years of work experience with or in community college admissions or postsecondary student advising
  • Proficiency in working with a data warehouse (e.g., ZogoTech software, Informer 5, or Power BI)
  • Proficient leadership, interpersonal, written, oral, and presentation skills

Position Description

The primary responsibility of the Director of Student Access and Financial Aid is to oversee Eagles’ One Stop for student admissions and financial aid. The Director will ensure that the Financial Aid Office provides current/prospective students and families with reliable information about financial aid opportunities; ensure that financial aid records are handled and processed according to federal, state, and institutional policy; act as a liaison between the Financial Aid Office, other SCC departments, and outside agencies; coordinate enrollment strategy under the direction of the Dean of Students, and supervise financial aid staff and admissions staff in the One-Stop. This position reports to the Dean of Students.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Effectively integrate One-Stop customer service for students and successful employee interactions by proactive supervision of financial aid staff, Senior Admissions Technician, Admissions Technicians (full-time and part-time), and College Navigators
  • Provide leadership for and supervise Financial Aid Office staff and ensure that staff have the training needed to do their jobs.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of federal, state, and local financial aid guidelines.
  • Interpret, implement, and maintain federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies pertaining to the administration of all federal, state and local financial aid programs.
  • Submit appropriate program and catalog documentation to the State Approving Agency for Veteran benefit approval in a timely manner. 
  • Primary contact for Veteran Benefits audit that is conducted by the State and Federal Approving Agency.
  • Prepare and maintain all financial aid reports, including but not limited to FISAP, NCHED, Pell Payment Reporting, Transfer Monitoring, and North Carolina state-level funds.

 

DUTIES:

  • Oversee the writing, maintaining and disseminating of financial aid information and forms for students, staff, and faculty use.
  • Supervise, train and delegate duties as related to the Federal Title IV programs, NC state-level funds, and Institutional Scholarships.
  • Supervise and train Financial Aid Office personnel in the administration of financial aid processes, including but not limited to applications, verification, need analysis, satisfactory academic progression standards, awards, and Return to Title IV.
  • Supervise and train Financial Aid Office personnel in administering Veteran Educational Benefits, including but not limited to eligibility, certification, and satisfactory academic progression standards. 
  • Coordinate with Business Office including but not limited to Pell Disbursement and Book Charge dates, balancing end-of-month and end-of-year expenditure reports, processing disbursements, and processing refunds/repayments for financial aid students who have withdrawn from all classes.
  • Review and maintain the Cost of Attendance budget as required by federal guidelines.
  • Prepare, initialize, and maintain the current financial aid year in Colleague software, including but not limited to attendance patterns, Pell entitlement figures, awards, communication management, and budgets.
  • Write and maintain institutional policy and procedure manuals to ensure compliance in all financial aid programs.
  • Maintain and run Satisfactory Academic Progress application in Colleague.  Ensure that students are notified according to Department of Education requirements.
  • Verify Return to Title IV funds calculations, update the Department of Education's website, maintain log, and notify students.
  • Responsible for reviewing Special Consideration or Professional Judgment requests and the subsequent decisions as to whether changes to a financial aid record are warranted.
  • Responsible for reviewing all financial aid appeal request forms and the subsequent decisions as to whether financial aid eligibility is to continue and if so, give guidance for the required Academic Educational Plan, if applicable.
  • Coordinate Financial Aid Consortium agreements with other colleges.
  • Monitor Transfer Monitoring and POP reports for students who may be receiving Pell at more than one school and resolve all issues identified.
  • Review and process exporting student records that have been verified and corrected.
  • Supervise, train, and delegate duties as related to all institutional scholarships including curriculum and occupation extension.
  • Counsel current and prospective students regarding financial aid opportunities, policies, and procedures.
  • Attending state and regional meetings for the purpose of updated training for the administration of financial aid programs.
  • Chair the Financial Aid Committee and serve on other institutional committees as required.
  • Ensure that ICore and appropriate administration are kept informed of financial aid changes.
  • Assist in-office procedures, i.e., verifications, reviewing disbursement lists, and checking classes as needed to ensure students are processed in a timely manner.
  • Have all calls, voicemails, and emails answered by the end of the workday and monitor the Financial Aid Department emails and voicemails ensuring that responses are made in a timely manner.
  • Provide a holistic approach to answering students’ questions thus providing quality customer service.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using Colleague to counsel and monitor students.
  • Work professionally and effectively with staff, faculty, peers, and supervisors.
  • Participate in professional development activities as required (i.e., workshops, seminars, etc.)
  • Participate in Student Development activities and events as required.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
