Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Five or more years of experience in financial aid or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Leadership, problem-solving, organizational, management, and public speaking skills required.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills to solve problems, analyze trends and provide recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Three or more years of work experience providing supervision or leadership to a financial aid department or related department in a higher education setting.
Position Description
- GENERAL FUNCTION: This position is responsible for the administration and supervision of all processes relating to student financial support, including local, state, and federal financial aid and various veterans benefit programs. The Director of Student Financial Resources is expected to adhere to all US Department of Education regulations and provide training and guidance to others in the department. A key component of this position is to enhance current processes, increase efficiencies, and produce a counseling financial aid service environment that assists students in applying, obtaining, and retaining federal, state, and institutional grants and scholarships
Essential Duties:
- Hire, train, and supervise Student Financial Resources personnel
- Plan, organize and direct the activities of all appropriate service operations, and allocates personnel and resources to optimize departmental efficiency and effectiveness
- Supervise all Federal, state and institutional Financial Aid programs, interpret, implement and ensure compliance with Federal and state laws, regulations, rules and guidelines.
- Oversee the processing and archival of student financial aid applications and data
- Provide managerial direction including planning, goal setting, implementation, coordination, evaluation, assessment and accountability for student financial resource support services
- Administer and coordinate all Title IV funded programs from the U.S. Department of Education including Federal Work Study, Pell Grants, and supplemental Grants. Identify fund recipients who fail to fulfill program requirements as specified in USDOE guidelines
- Manage budget for Student Financial Resources department
- Collaborate with other departments on campus to ensure service and process efficiency, and supports the concept of "One Stop Shop" for the Student Affairs division
- Ensure prompt communication with current and prospective students regarding the status of their financial aid packages, including automation of standard communications
- Supervise the processing of veterans' entitlements and educational benefits, and reporting to state and Federal agencies
- Prepare and submit reports, in adherence to appropriate local, state, or federal reporting deadlines
- Monitor and track financial aid students' academic progress, provide counseling to students on their progress, and process appeals for reinstatement of aid
- Create and update an internal operations manual and ensures that all Student Financial Resources staff are cross-trained in various tasks and processes
