Minimum Qualifications
Education:
The Surgical Technology Program Director must hold at least an Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology.
Experience/Training:
The credential of the Program Director must be in the field of surgical technology and through a national credentialing organization that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
The Program Director must have a minimum of five years of current operating room experience in the scrub role, and/or five years of current experience as an instructor in surgical technology OR a combination of both within the last ten years.
Experience/training as an educator is recommended. Current operating room experience is defined as a minimum of five years spent as a practicing surgical technologist and/or as an instructor in surgical technology.
As a minimum, the academic preparation must meet the requirements of SACS and any other specialized accrediting/certifying agencies.

Position Description
Develop, plan, implement, and administer the goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures regarding the Surgical Technology Program; approve new or modified systems, policies, and procedures.
Evaluate activities and operations of the Surgical Technology Program; evaluate and ensure that operations meet the goals and objectives of the college and the needs of the student population; establish and monitor program evaluation systems and procedures.
Coordinate and participate in the development and administration of the Surgical Technology budget; recommend funds for equipment, materials, and supplies; recommend staffing needs; monitor and approve expenditures; implement mid year adjustments.
Approve payroll and part time faculty leave requests.
Select, train, motivate, and evaluate instructional personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with faculty to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
Oversee the development, implementation, maintenance, and review of curriculum following the required 6th Core Curriculum, syllabi, special courses, and programs; ensure curriculum meets the needs of the community.
Primary instructor for the classes in the Surgical Technology Program; prepare comprehensive curriculum; select textbooks; prepare, proctor, and grade tests; prepare instructional materials and aids.
Coordinate the recruitment and retention of students; coordinate the development, review, and revision of program publications, publicity and other community relations activities.
Supervise the adherence of College policies.
Coordinate the selection, use, and maintenance of equipment, supplies and facilities used in the Surgical Technology Program.
Oversee the use and maintenance of the lab, classroom, & storage facilities for Surgical Technology.
Make presentations to outside agencies as a representative of the college; stay abreast of new developments in the assigned area of study.
Initiate and maintain agreements/contracts between the college and clinical agencies; develop, review, and approve new program proposals.
Maintain open communication with the Association of Surgical Technology (AST), the National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), the Accreditation Review Committee Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (ARCSTSA), & Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
Completing mandatory yearly program reports.
