Blue Ridge Community College is currently seeking applications for a Director of Learning and Teaching. The Director of Teaching and Learning provides leadership for the College’s overall Teaching and Learning initiatives to promote quality instruction for student success and retention. This position coordinates the development and training of faculty and supervises staff in best practices for teaching and learning.
Education: Masters in Instructional Design, Education, Higher Education Curriculum, Assessment, or a related field with significant higher education teaching experience.
Experience:
• Experience working in instructional technology, preferably in higher education
• Experience teaching, preferably in higher education
• Experience developing and delivering training and support services for teaching and learning;
• Knowledge of and experience in the application of best practices in educational technologies, instructional design, and quality course delivery;
• Experience with a Learning Management System (LMS);
• Demonstrated knowledge of Regional College Accreditation requirements and best practices as related to educational technologies and online education;
Preferred Qualifications:
• Higher education online teaching experience, preferably at the community college level;
• Experience supervising others, particularly within a higher education setting
• Strong technical writing skills and experience developing training materials;
• Knowledge of streaming audio and video;
• Familiarity with visual design elements appropriate for web-based instruction and learning;
• Proven ability to coordinate and direct multiple projects with faculty and staff
• Familiarity with the “Moodle” LMS
Knowledge and Skills:
• The ideal person will possess strong personal and professional integrity, effective verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to cybersecurity.
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects with varying priorities.
• Leadership skills to be able to delegate tasks and mentor staff and faculty
• Knowledge of LMS systems – specifically Moodle
• Knowledge of HTML/CSS
• Working experience with various multimedia software for course enrichment (Camtasia, Dreamweaver, etc.);
• Expert knowledge of current Microsoft Office software;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Superior interpersonal and team-oriented aptitude;
• Ability to work collaboratively in a higher education environment;
• Ability to advise faculty in the design, development, and implementation of technology that supports and enhances quality instruction and student learning;
• Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to students and staff;
• Demonstrate and model employability soft skills including adaptability, communications, information processing, problem-solving, responsibility, and teamwork
Working Conditions: Indoor office environment; moderate level of interruptions; frequent deadlines; occasional irregular work hours.
Physical Demands:
The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
