  • Bachelor’s Degree earned, or in progress, from an accredited institution
  • 5+ years of work experience in the field

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience with classroom technology and equipment
  • Community College teaching experience
  • Master’s Degree in discipline

Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Director of Turfgrass Management and Horticulture Technology is a teaching faculty who carry additional responsibilities above those of nine-month, full-time faculty members. He/She is responsible for providing leadership, vision, direction, and oversight of all activities within the department.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Provides collaborative leadership, guidance, and direction for the assigned program
  • Fosters a collegial relationship among colleagues and partners
  • Provides leadership for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs of study while ensuring accreditation and compliance mandates are met
  • Leads program recruitment, enrollment, and growth activities
  • Sets a climate for positive attitudes, growth, and expectations among faculty by supporting the goals and objectives of the college and division
  • Supports the student access, success, and completion agenda
  • Actively represents assigned programs in the College’s planning, decision-making, and budget development and management processes
  • Develops a comprehensive departmental strategic plan aligned with the college planning timeline to include program reviews
  • Evaluates and updates program and course student learning outcomes and course syllabi
  • Evaluates and updates course syllabi
  • Directs, advises, and instructs in the Turfgrass Management and Horticulture Technology  programs with an assigned course load which will include lecture, lab, testing, assessments, maintaining attendance records, syllabi, program updates, lesson plans, and more
  •  Excellent oral communication skills, therefore, are necessary
  • Collaborates with Student Services, Continuing Education & Workforce Development, BCC Foundation, and Marketing to identify initiatives that support the success of assigned programs
  • Identifies new programs and course offerings
  • Recruits, hire, orient, evaluate and provide success plans for credentialed faculty and staff members
  • Partners with senior institutions, community partners, schools and peer institutions to meet their needs and strengthen assigned programs, create and sustain articulation agreements and foster bridge programs
  • Provides leadership to the Turfgrass Management and Horticulture Technology Advisory Committee and networks to aid job placement of graduates
  • Manages the instructional processes through collaborative planning
  • Coordinates the annual program operating budget and track expenditures in operational areas
  • Participates in various committee assignments
  • Identifies grant opportunities that advance instruction, director/faculty professional development, new technologies, innovations, and student learning initiatives
  • Performs other tasks as needed

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position supervises full-time and part-time faculty and staff
  • This positon oversees program related equipment and operations of greenhouses/structures
  • This position also serves as the Captain of Building K
