The Purpose

The Disability Services Coordinator is a member of the Student Services team and oversees the development and implementation of support services for students with disabilities.

What You'll be Doing • Coordinate all student disability support services, including the Henderson County Campus, Transylvania County Campus, Health Science Center, Continuing Education and High School Equivalency. • Review documentation, determine reasonable accommodations, and provide counseling services to students with disabilities. Make referrals as needed. • Develop Individual Accommodation Plans for students. Maintain appropriate student records, including documentation of disability. • Serve key role in supporting the College’s Federal Government 508 Accessibility compliance. • Chair accessibility committee • Serve as member of behavioral assessment team • Manage Disability Services program budget. • Provide Crisis Counseling to students at the Henderson County Campus, Transylvania County Campus, and the Health Science Center. • Serve as liaison between faculty member and students with disabilities. • Seek external funding for Disability Services program activities. • Maintain the technical competencies necessary to the job function. • Provide professional development opportunities for faculty and staff in working with special populations • Connect with service providers in community/facilitate external resources for students • Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies. Additionally Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Education Bachelor’s degree in human service-related field. Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Master’s degree preferred. Experience All persons must provide verifiable and relevant professional experience in a workplace setting or demonstrated instructional/educational environment. Skills and the Know-How Ability to interpret ADA and Title II laws. Knowledge of physical and mental health-related aspects and/or impact of disabilities for post-secondary setting. Strong personal and professional integrity, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety. A positive attitude with a real enjoyment of the challenge of working toward positive outcomes for the prospective student, the admissions team, and the College. Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, Database systems, Content Management Systems (CMS), College email and website, and web-based computer applications associated with the position. Knowledge of budget preparation, monitoring, and administration.

  • Excellent counseling skills for use in the educational setting including crisis issues.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to work with a diverse population of current/prospective students, parents, co-workers, or outside agencies.
  • A student-centered customer service attitude is required.
  • A positive attitude with a real enjoyment of the challenge of working toward positive outcomes for both prospective and current students.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule which may include some evenings, weekends, and travel

Physical Demands

The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
