Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in education/special education, counseling, psychology, social work, rehabilitation counseling or related field with a minimum of three years professional experience providing direct service to persons with disabilities with a wide range of disabilities (students in secondary or higher education preferred)
- Demonstrated understanding and/or developing knowledge of ADA (amendments and revisions) and Section 504 of Rehabilitation Act
- Knowledge and experience with assistive technology, such as JAWS, etc.

- Ability to handle sensitive issues and commitment to confidentiality.
- Excellent listening and oral and written communication skills that enable effective working relationships with diverse populations and with people across the college community.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Demonstrated computer competency. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Powerpoint
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work efficiently under time constraints.

Position Description
OPEN UNTIL FILLED
The Disability Services Support Specialist is a knowledgeable and organized individual with strong communication skills who will work with students with disabilities, faculty, staff, and internal and external customers on a daily basis.
Example of Duties
- Address student and parent inquiry to Alamance Community College’s Disability Services Accommodation request process.
- Assists the Coordinator in maintaining updated student information in departmental database and case management files
- Inform instructors of students receiving accommodations, secure note takers and process paperwork.
- Provide support to students in time management, organizational skills, study skills, test taking strategies and self-advocacy.
- Provide support to students to assist with college readiness skills, address academic challenges, activities that promote college retention and support in academic areas
- Assist students with accessing Academic Support Services, such as tutoring, Writing Center or Math Lab
- Train students how to use assistive technology and adaptive equipment
- Update and ensure accessibility to Disability Services webpage and Moodle site
- In consultation with the Coordinator of Disability Services, review, update, and revise the Disability Services procedures as necessary.
- Assist with test proctoring and administration during high volume times
- Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Disability Services.
