Minimum Qualifications

• Associate's degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution in Educational Technology, Information Systems, or related subject. • One year of work experience providing technical training. • One year of work experience providing help desk support. • Experience using a learning management system outside of a student role. • Experience using video conferencing tools such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Collaborate, etc. • Demonstrated technology skills and ability with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other learning technology tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution in Educational Technology, Information Systems, or related subject. • One year of work experience in higher education. • Experience with user experience in both the following categories: Windows based personal computer systems, Apple based computer systems

Position Description

Job Summary: The Instructional Support Technologist supports the College's delivery of curriculum and continuing education distance learning courses by working directly with faculty and staff members in one-on-one, small groups, and in departments to help personnel reach a mastery level in their use of instructional technology. The Instructional Support Technologist maintains a variety of online faculty, staff, and student resources and provides help desk assistance and related student support to users when appropriate. All work created by the Instructional Support Technologist reflects Mitchell Community College's mission. The Instructional Support Technologist reports to the Director of Distance Learning. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Works in collaboration with members of the Distance Learning Department to execute strategies and plans for distance learning in curriculum and continuing education programs that promote the College's overall strategic initiatives. • Coordinate with subject matter experts to develop knowledge resources (how-to guides, videos, FAQs) and best practices for online tools in order to support the delivery of distance learning courses. • Provide information regarding distance learning processes and procedures using a variety of means for the dispersal of information critical to Curriculum and Continuing Education faculty, staff, and students. • Help design and deliver instructional technology training to Curriculum and Continuing Education faculty, staff, and students. • Work closely with Curriculum and Continuing Education faculty to develop more instructionally sound, Quality Matters (QM) and ADA compliant online courses. • Work closely with Curriculum and Continuing Education faculty on course development to incorporate learning technologies in the distance learning environment. • Provide technical support to Curriculum and Continuing Education faculty, staff and students as needed. • Work closely with Distance Learning team to test, document, demonstrate, and recommend LMS features, tools and other applications for distance learning course development. • Provide timely answers to faculty, staff, and student distance learning related questions via the College's help desk ticket system and Distance Learning phone line as needed. Route tickets to appropriate personnel. • Support the integrity and security of the college's learning management system (LMS) and related tools. • Practice ethical behavior and maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive data and information. • Collaborate with other members of the Distance Learning Department as needed to support curriculum programs and courses. • Advise faculty on trends, techniques, and best practices in educational technologies, uses and applications. • Utilize video conferencing tools, Microsoft Office applications, (Zoom, Collaborate) to meet faculty training and support needs. • Utilize Learning Management Systems (specifically Moodle), interactive web and media-based technologies. • Work closely with Distance Learning Department team to test, document, demonstrate, and recommend LMS features, tools and other applications for distance learning course development. Related Responsibilities: • attend scheduled or called College, divisional or other meetings • serve on College committees as requested by Department Director, Vice-President of Instruction, or the President • comply with College policies and procedures • remain current in the field of study by keeping abreast of professional literature, participating in professional organizations, taking classes and attending conferences and workshops as feasible and appropriate • work cooperatively with faculty, staff and students in a congenial and professional manner • perform other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Troubleshoot technical issues and ask information seeking questions. • Be able to multi-task projects and work with possible frequent interruptions. • Respect diversity and promote an inclusive, culturally responsive environment. • Adapt and respond accordingly based on the College's calendar and demands on Distance Learning. • Demonstrate through feedback and collaboration the importance of a learner-centered environment. • Communicate and promote distance learning with a wide range of stakeholders. • Possess a widespread knowledge of instructional technology tools and how they may be used in distance learning. • Remain up-to-date with emerging technologies that enhance distance learning. • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with faculty, staff, and administrators across the institution. • Test and learn new technologies quickly and autonomously. • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize multiple requests for services and support from a variety of sources. • Effectively communicate verbally (one-on-one, in email, through webinars, and in group meetings or presentations) and in writing (in e-mail and through reports) and incorporating good listening skills. • Use time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines while paying attention to details. • Demonstrate and model the College's employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility, and teamwork • High attention to detail. Surroundings/Environment: Standard office environment, usually indoors away from the elements, with moderate noise. Physical Effort: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain a stationary position for an extended period; move about the office, operate and position computers and files, as needed; and frequently communicate with others. The employee may occasionally move up to 15 pounds. Scheduling: This is a full-time position. Normal working hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday; however, must be available to work a flexible schedule, with day, evening, and weekend hours as job duties demand. Travel: Local travel may be required, including between campus locations. Out of state travel is limited, but may be required for special trainings/conferences.
