Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree in an academic discipline in the School of Arts and Sciences at SPCC from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
• Evidence of successful coordinator or administrative experience
• Minimum of one year of direct experience in secondary or postsecondary education
• Minimum of one academic year of full-time teaching experience (or the part-time equivalent)
• Experience as an academic advisor or related student support role
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Mastery of Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous work experience in cooperative innovative high schools, North Carolina Career and College Promise, or other dual enrollment programming
• Teaching experience at the college level
• One year experience as an academic advisor at the college level
• Familiarity with a course management system such as Moodle
• Familiarity with student information and early alert systems
• Demonstrated innovation within the field of education
Position Description
Job Description
The Early College Coordinator, Union County is a full-time, 12-month position located on the OCH Campus in Monroe, NC. Under the direction of the Director, Secondary Education Partnerships, the Early College Coordinator supports Union County Early College (UCEC) students in achieving success in their South Piedmont Community College (SPCC) courses and facilitates the relationship between UCEC and SPCC. Primary functions of the Early College Coordinator includes advising students related to their college coursework, coordinating SPCC testing, scheduling, registration for UCEC students, monitoring student success and connecting students to college resources, and fostering relationships between UCEC and SPCC administration and faculty. The Early College Coordinator provides appropriate reports, coordinates college textbooks for UCEC students, and teaches 6 semester hours of SPCC college courses per year (3 hours per semester, spring and fall semesters).
Job Duties
• Exhibit an uncompromising commitment to SPCC as a learning-centered college through the College’s mission, vision, values, core skills and learning outcomes
• Serve as an advisor and provide registration and enrollment services for UCEC students as pertains to SPCC coursework
• Promote and support student retention efforts through early alert monitoring and outreach.
• Provide consistent and accurate communication with Early College counselors and potential students regarding details related to SPCC registration and programs of study.
• Maintain accurate and adequate student records to assist in advising and registration at SPCC
• Meet with students and parents as needed for advising
• Serve as a liaison among students, parents, high school personnel and college personnel to assist students as appropriate
• Coordinate support services to help UCEC students succeed in college courses
• Serve as a liaison with college disability services coordinator and UCEC
• Arrange and assist with placement testing and provide test interpretation for UCEC
• Support testing efforts as appropriate
• Teach one SPCC course (3 SHC) in the spring and fall semesters
• Fulfill all faculty obligations for the course taught each semester
• Maintain accurate records of student participation in SPCC courses for FTE and reporting purposes
• Distribute, track, and collect textbooks and learning materials assigned to students for college courses
• Monitor and report student performance in SPCC courses
• Schedule and facilitate joint SPCC/UCEC faculty discussions
• Schedule and facilitate joint SPCC/UCEC administrative discussions
• Participate in short-range and long-range planning; conduct research and surveys to determine current effectiveness and future needs; prepare updates, reports, and plans.
• Facilitate schedule building to blend high school and college schedules
• Facilitate curriculum planning to align secondary and postsecondary expectations
• Schedule college classes, coordinate facilities, and develop student plans of study for UCEC students
• Transfer end of semester grades from SPCC to UCEC for their records
• Assist with summer orientation program as pertains to SPCC programs
• Confer with the UCEC Principal, Director of Secondary Education Partnerships, and SPCC faculty and staff on a regular basis to assess student needs and develop solutions and services to meet those needs
• Continue professional development for the improvement of self and the program
• Work collectively with the Secondary Education Partnership team
• Perform other duties as assigned
