Minimum Qualifications
A Master’s degree in Economics or a Master’s degree in a related discipline with 18 graduate hours in Economics and proficiency with computer software programs are required. The Economics Instructor must possess excellent oral and written communication skills as well as demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with others. A valid North Carolina driver’s license with a driving record sufficient to be covered under the Wayne Community College auto policy is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is preferred. Two years of instructional experience is preferred. Familiar with teaching in a distance learning environment using Moodle or other learning management systems is preferred. Experience working with a diverse population to include students, parents, faculty, staff, and the general public is preferred. Bilingual is preferred.
Position Description
The primary responsibility of the Economics Instructor is to provide instruction for microeconomics and macroeconomics classes and will be responsible for course planning, including the development and evaluation of these courses and their assignments. The instructor will serve as an academic advisor and teach the College Transfer Student Success course as needed and will serve on college committees and participate in college activities such as meetings, professional development opportunities, orientations, and graduations. The instructor will be responsible for maintaining and submitting a variety of academic reports and ensuring accurate and timely recordkeeping. This position will require teaching on-campus, off-campus, and online classes during the day, evening, and/or on weekends and will require other duties to be completed as assigned by the Department Chair and the Dean.
