Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education, business, accounting or related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in public education which is specifically related to assigned work or in auditing or other compliance-related function; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Description

This professional level position conducts compliance reviews of assigned NC community colleges to ensure adherence to applicable rules and regulations to include, but not limited to, NC General Statutes, State Board of Community Colleges Code (SBCCC), and policies and procedures of the System Office and community colleges. The reviews are conducted both individually and as part of a team of examiners.  When conducting the reviews, the employee follows a prescribed set of procedures and generates detailed documentation.  The employee will be responsible for meeting with community college staff to discuss issues found during the reviews.  The employee is also responsible for developing and conducting training at conferences and individual community colleges, individually or with a team. Work is performed under general supervision and requires the use of independent judgement.

Reviews are conducted bi-annually onsite at all NC community colleges.  Maintenance of a valid driver’s license is required and must be maintained.  Extensive travel during the review period is required (at least 80%), including overnight stays throughout NC.  Evening and weekend work is occasionally required to complete assigned work.  A state vehicle may be assigned to this position. 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/AND ABILITIES:  Strong oral and written communication skills, are required. The employee must exhibit excellent attention to detail skills and should be able to multi-task. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.

PREFERENCES: Working knowledge of community college laws, regulations, administrative memoranda, and program guidelines is preferred. Two years of experience in the North Carolina Community College System is preferred.
