Bachelor’s degree in education, business, accounting or related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in public education which is specifically related to assigned work or in auditing or other compliance-related function; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Description

This position is professional level work involving conducting policy reviews and compliance audits of assigned community colleges to ensure adherence of required reporting practices, policies and procedures and program operations to applicable state laws, State Board of Community Colleges (SBCC) and System Office policies and program guidelines.  The employee conducts audits both individually and as part of a team of auditors, if required.  The employee provides coaching and consultation to community college personnel clarifying applicable General Statutes, State Board of Community Colleges Code, and State Board and System office policies and guidelines, and other reporting requirements.  In conducting audits, the employee follows a prescribed set of audit procedures and develops detailed audit reports.  This employee also develops and delivers presentations concerning audit issues to groups of community college personnel as requested by the Director of Accountability and Compliance Training.  Work is performed under general supervision, with latitude for exercising independent judgment, and is reviewed through reports and interaction with the Director of Accountability and Compliance Training.

Audits are conducted semi-annually at all assigned colleges.  Maintenance of a valid North Carolina driver’s license is required.  Extensive travel (at least 50%) is required, including overnight stays throughout North Carolina.  Evening and weekend work may be required to complete assigned audits.  A state vehicle may be assigned to this position.  Other duties as assigned by Director of Accountability and Compliance Training.

Position will be hosted at one of the community colleges located in the western part of North Carolina.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/AND ABILITIES:  Working knowledge of community college laws, regulations, administrative memoranda and program guidelines is required. Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with others utilizing listening skills, are required. Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint application skills are also required. Two years of experience in a North Carolina community college specifically related to the assigned work is required.
