Minimum Qualifications

Required educational background:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution preferably in counseling or closely related field  

Required kind and number years of work experience:

  • Two years in student services and academic advising in a higher education setting or closely related experience

 

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Multitasking, organization, prioritizing, Microsoft Office Suite experience, ability to follow-up in a timely manner, excellent written and oral communication, ability to work in a fast paced environment during peak periods, effective collaboration/critical thinking/team building/problem solving skills, and an understanding of and commitment to the open door philosophy of the community college.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution preferably in counseling or closely related field; 2 years in student services and/or academic advising in a higher education setting; Bilingual (Spanish and English)

Position Description

This position provides a wide range of activities involved in admissions and enrollment assistance, advising, success coaching, and determining selection for admission into competitive-entry programs with the College.

This is a grant-funded position with an anticipated grant end date of June 30, 2026.  Continuation of position is contingent upon grant funds

Essential Duties

 

  • Serves as the initial point of contact for adult learners reconnecting to the college through the entire onboarding process which includes:
    • Providing holistic and individualized outreach and support
    • Collaborating with staff to consider onboarding events that best prepares students for success.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for the Minority Male Success Initiative, Brothers of Excellence which includes:
    • Planning and executing all programs, workshops, and events
    • Lead outreach initiatives to identified incoming students
    • Recruit mentors from CCCC faculty and staff and match mentors with students
    • Serve as coach to a caseload of students participating in the BOE program, monitor student progress, proactively addressing academic concerns and faculty generated alerts.
    • Conduct calls to students in an effort to connect students to their advisors according to registration time periods.
    • Review semester and annual reports to determine success of the program and need for future changes.
  • Assists students in navigating admissions policies and procedures; answers specific inquiries, maintains contact with prospective students, and ensures completion of application materials of students in the admissions process.
  • Provides students with initial and ongoing academic advising by assisting with course planning, facilitating student admission and registration, advising students of available support programs and services, and maintaining records of advising contacts.
  • Assesses prospective student admission data such as test scores and placement information, reviews transcripts from high school, postsecondary institutions and other relative documentation.
  • Engages in proactive outreach to a caseload of students, provides ongoing coaching, and connects students to needed resources and services.
  • Conducts group and advising and information sessions for prospective and current students.
  • Provides information regarding course offerings to applicants which requires familiarity with all curriculum and continuing education programs offered by the college.
  • Serve as New Student Orientation facilitator
  • Facilitates workshops and training sessions for students as needed.
  • Attend onboarding, recruitments, and community engagement events as needed.
  • Serves on college-wide committees as requested.
  • Maintains adequate records and assures correct applicant status and starting semester.
  • Work virtually and during evening hours as needed.
  • Responds in a timely and professional manner to student inquiries- phone, written, and personal conference.
  • Complete the annual five-hour staff development requirement. 
  • Follow and support College activities, policies, and procedures. 
  • Performs additional tasks or duties as assigned.
