Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in education or in the special education field to which assigned from an appropriately accredited institution, and four years progressively responsible experience in public education, or a  Doctoral degree in education or in the special education field to which assigned from an appropriately accredited institution, and two years of progressively responsible experience in public education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Description

This position will provide leadership, advisement, and direction for curriculum development on a state-level. Working under the direction of the Associate Vice President, this position is responsible for assisting the 58 community colleges in providing state-level leadership while supervising a team with curriculum responsibilities for agricultural and natural resources technologies, biological and chemical technologies, business technologies, commercial and artistic production technologies, construction technologies, engineering technologies, general education, health sciences, industrial technologies, public service technologies, and transport systems technologies. This position also is primarily responsible for college transfer degrees, Career and College Promise (CCP) transfer pathways, and supervision of Career and College Promise (CCP) including all CCP pathway programs and Cooperative Innovative High Schools (CIHS). Key responsibilities include providing leadership and supervision in development and compliance of state curriculum guides and resource materials including, but not limited to North Carolina Administrative Code, Curriculum Standards, Combined Course Library, Work Based Learning, and collaborative arrangements for delivery of educational services including but not limited to Career and College Promise (CCP) and Cooperative Innovative High Schools (CIHS).

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/AND ABILITIES: The applicant must be articulate and skilled in working with a variety of levels of people in business, industry, and educational institutions. This person must have a thorough knowledge of technical education and the various occupations and the ability to plan, organize, and develop state-wide education programs, policies, and procedures.

The individual in this position will have significant independence and responsibility in the supervision and direction of the staff in Academic Programs with periodic direction and supervision through consultation with the Associate Vice President and Vice President. This will include responsibility for supervising and directing curriculum educational projects, programs and courses, the development of long-range plans and guidelines for expansion or redirecting projects to assure appropriate implementation of the projects and programs throughout the Systems. This position will require coordination with administrative and instructional staff throughout the System in matters related to a wide range of curriculum programs. The position requires a broad and in-depth knowledge of curriculum development in many program areas and a thorough knowledge of the basic principles and theories of education and a thorough knowledge of the specific subject areas assigned. This position requires the ability to plan, organize and develop statewide education programs.

The applicant must be articulate and skilled in working with a variety of levels of people from entry level employees to top level administrators in educational institutions.  The applicant must be able to follow through on obligations and interact in a manner that builds confidence in the intentions of the individual and the organization.  The position requires a strong commitment to providing services to external and internal customers by developing, implementing, and evaluating processes which are both efficient and effective from the customers’ perspective.

PREFERENCES: Preference will be given to those applicants with experience in a community college within the North Carolina Community College System in academic programs and Career and College Promise (CCP)/Cooperative Innovative High School (CIHS) supervision.
