Minimum Qualifications

Degree Requirements:

A Diploma in Electrical Systems Technology (or similar program) and a North Carolina electrical contracting license is required.  An Associate’s Degree (or higher) in Electrical Systems (or similar program) is preferred.

 

Experience Requirements:

Experience teaching college-level electrical courses is strongly preferred.  Experience with using instructional technology is required.  Experience teaching in both high school and college environments is a plus.  Diversity of experience in teaching courses within the electrical discipline is a plus.

 

Knowledge of:

  • Classroom instructional techniques and proce­dures.
  • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration in the area of assignment.
  • Current trends, research, and development in the area of assignment.
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping.
  • Principles and techniques involved in curriculum and course development.
  • Principles and techniques involved in test development.
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regu­lations, as appropriate.

Ability to:

  • Participate in instructional programs suited to the community.
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities.
  • Participate in curriculum development.
  • Create effective instruction for delivery in both online and physical classrooms while maintaining compliance with ADA standards.
  • Interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies, proce­dures, laws, and regulations.
  • Work effectively in diverse teams, both within assigned department and cross-functionally across the college.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Position Description

Provide effective instruction to students in the classroom, laboratory, and/or online by preparing for each learning experience, providing supplemental materials to enhance textbooks and lessons, and using effective evaluation methods to determine student performance.

If the discipline involves laboratory instruction, demonstrate, endorse, and enforce student adherence to laboratory safety protocols.
 
 Support student learning outside of the classroom by holding regular office hours, providing information about additional resources outside of class, and responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner so as to promote student success.
 
 Support curriculum development by participating in the creation and evaluation of courses, curriculum, and programs; participating in program advisory committees; attending departmental, school-wide, and college-wide meetings; and serving as backup for other faculty members.
 
 Promote the success of the college by participating in standing and/or ad hoc committees and following college professional and ethical guidelines.
 
 Maintain teaching and work environment including equipment and supplies, overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.
 
 Stay current in the electrical discipline and teaching methodology by meeting or exceeding all institutional professional development guidelines, participating in professional development workshops and seminars, and participating in professional organizations and reading journals in the teaching and electrical disciplines.
 
 Maintain accurate records such as attendance, grades, information for accreditation, and other important data and submit reports according to college policies.

Communicate clearly, conscientiously, professionally, and in a caring manner with students and colleagues.

Participate in the orientation of new part-time and/or full-time faculty members, as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.
