Minimum Qualifications

The applicant must possess and maintain a current North Carolina or National Registry Paramedic credential. In addition the applicant must possess a NCOEMS Level II Paramedic Instructor credential. The applicant must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. The applicant should have 10 years of clinical experience with an EMS provider at the Paramedic level and should have 3 years of teaching experience. The teaching experience should incorporate educational methodology, curriculum development, test construction, and measurement/evaluation. The candidate should have provider certifications for ACLS, PALS or PEPP, and ITLS or PHTLS The candidate should also have instructor certifications in these disciplines, or, if not, the willingness to attain such within one year. In addition, the applicant must have excellent communication skills, computer applications proficiency, and must have the ability to work effectively with others.

Position Description

This is a full-time, 12-month position. The Emergency Medical Science Director is responsible for the planning, selection, organization, implementation, supervision, facilitation, and evaluation of the total learning experience of EMS students in both the curriculum and continuing education divisions of the college.

Job Duties

The individual will be responsible for the planning, placement, and supervision of students engaged classroom and clinical education.. The Director will be the lead in obtaining and maintaining program accreditation through the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP), the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. The individual will also help establish clinical and internship contracts and agreements with host facilities. The individual will be responsible for advising and registering students, curriculum development, developing student learning outcomes, serving on division and college committees, maintaining currency in the teaching discipline, and supporting the college’s commitment to enhance student learning.

Other responsibilities will include the individual to serve as a mentor/role model to students, faculty, and the community, by presenting a positive professional image. The EMS Director reports to the Dean of Public Safety.
