Minimum Qualifications

Required educational background:

  • Associates Degree

Required kind and number of years of work experience:

  • Three (3) year's EMS experience at the paramedic level of certification, AND
  • Two (2) year's post-secondary instructor experience.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of course content, all pre-hospital equipment, and ambulance operations.
  • Must be proficient in all skills required for the class being taught with the ability to teach skills to others.
  • Must meet NCOEMS credentialing guidelines.
  • Ability to perform public speaking activities to various audiences. 

Required license or certificate: 

  • NCOEMS Level I EMS Instructor - Paramedic, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NCOEMS Level II EMS Instructor - Paramedic
  • National Registry of EMTs (NRP)
  • EVD Instructor
  • Haz-Mat Instructor
  • NAEMT Instructor (all disciplines, incl: EPC, GEMS, EVOS, PHTLS/ITLS, AMLS)
  • AHA Instructor (all disciplines, incl: BLS, ACLS, PALS)

The purpose of a full-time instructor in Emergency Medical Services at the Central Carolina Community College, in addition to teaching, is to assist the program director in the administration of Emergency Medical Services(s) courses. This is accomplished through continuous evaluation and revision of course objectives, course outlines, course competencies, course descriptions, and teaching strategies in the specific curriculum to ascertain that they are appropriate, relevant and meet accreditation standards.

 

The EMS Instructor (12-month) position will be primarily based at the Harnett Main Campus. Specialty classes on some weekends. 

 

  • Ability to travel and work in the Central Carolina Community College service area (Chatham, Harnett, and Lee counties) as necessary. Infrequent travel outside the service area for college related business.

Salary depends on education and experience. 

Associate Degree salary range: $54,419 - $63,708

Bachelor's Degree salary range: $57,656 - $67,427 

Master's Degree salary range: $60,529 - $70,055

                    Doctoral Degree salary range: $64,671 - $73,976

Essential Duties

 

  • CCCC is committed to involving students, eliminating obstacles, and providing support as they strive for academic success in EMS. Use EMS concepts in teaching to create engaging and interactive learning experiences for all students. 
  • Ensure students receive sufficient attention and instruction to meet CoAEMSP program goals and learning domains at the appropriate Bloom's Taxonomy level for graduation. 
  • Keep EMS education and training programs up-to-date, ensuring students have the latest skills and knowledge for providing optimal patient care. 
  • Work 40 hours per week and post and hold the required office hours.
  • Teach 16-20 contact hours weekly in the classroom and laboratory.
  • Prepare and administer proficiency examinations (written and skills) as directed.
  • Obtain Blackboard (Bb) Level I and Level II training and maintain a Bb course site for each course taught during the semester.
  • Maintain attendance and grade roster for each course according to the CCCC policy and procedures manual.
  • Be the primary advocate and assist in marketing, recruiting, orienting, registering, and retaining students for the EMS program.
  • Perform the duties of clinical coordinator.
  • Complete the five-hour staff development requirement annually.
  • Assist in working with and maintaining an active program advisory committee that meets at least once per year and in preparing and submitting meeting minutes.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations.
  • Maintain current industry licensure and credentials, including earning annual CME/CEUs.
  • Coordinate EMS continuing education and in-service training in Harnett, Lee, and Chatham counties.
  • Cultivate and maintain cooperative educational relationships with Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine.
  • Oversee the CCCC EMS program at Campbell University.
  • Reports to and is supervised by the CCCC EMS Program Coordinator.
  • Be responsible for and perform other such duties as may be assigned.
