Minimum Qualifications

  1. Associates degree from a regionally accredited institution
  2. Current paramedic certification by the NC Office of EMS
  3. NCOEMS Level 1 Paramedic Instructor
  4. Must be able to obtain CPR, ACLS, and PALS Certification Instructor within 12 months of date of employment
  5. Five years of experience as a paramedic
  6. Three years of EMS teaching experience
  7.  Knowledge of COAEMSP Accreditation process and standards
  8. Understanding of online course delivery for EMS programs
  9. Excellent organizational skills
  10. Excellent communication skills
  11. Excellent interpersonal relations skills

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree

Position Description

Under the general supervision of the Director of Fire/EMS Training, the Lead EMS Instructor will:

  1. Serve as an Instructor for the Paramedic Initial Classes as well as other ALS classes, as needed.
  2. Assist with class visitations for the monthly continuing education classes.
  3. Assist with the organization and inventory of the EMS supply room.
  4. Use a variety of instructional methods to achieve student learning according to expected outcomes.
  5. Provide students with the approved course syllabus and relate instruction and evaluation to that syllabus.
  6. Maintain a collegial classroom and learning environment that fosters respect and collaborative teamwork.
  7. Evaluate student performance in a timely manner to adhere to the course objectives as stated in the syllabus.
  8. Maintain a flexible schedule to meet program needs which may include nights and weekends.
  9. Assist the program director in ongoing program evaluations.
  10. Maintain class records and submit required reports in a timely manner.
  11. Assist the program director in the development of new EMS training opportunities.
  12. Participates in professional development opportunities to enhance performance.
  13. Participate in EMS and college related meetings, as needed.
  14. Serve on college committees.
  15. Adhere to COAEMSP accreditation and NCOEMS program requirements.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned by the EMS Program Director.
