Minimum Qualifications
Associate Degree or higher and posse a NCEMS Level II Instructor Credential at the Paramedic Level. Posses a current NCEMS Paramedic Certification.
Four years work experience as a paramedic in a 911 system.
Intermediate experience in Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, and Excel. Communication, both oral and written, skills necessary. Creativity and openness to change. Be knowledgeable concerning current national curricula, national accreditation, national registration, and the requirements for state and national certification.
Preferred Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in a science field from a regionally accredited University.
Successful teaching experience in a community/technical college or similar post-secondary institution. On-line teaching experience. Instructor credentials in American Heart Association BLS CPR, ACLS, PALS. NAEMT instructor for PHTLS and EVOS.
Position Description
The Division of Continuing Education is seeking a full-time instructor to teach the instructional and clinical portion of the EMT to Paramedic class. The EMT to Paramedic program prepares individuals as entry level paramedics for employment. When we do not have a Paramedic class running, you may be asked to teach in other programs such as the Advanced EMT, EMT, or CE courses. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, online, hybrid, and lab-based sections. This individual will also participate in course and curriculum design, development of student learning outcomes and assessment, serve on college committees, maintain office hours, and fulfill all the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required. Flexibility and willingness to change depending upon the needs of the students or the institution.
Under the direction of the Director of EMS Programs, the Continuing Education Instructor works cooperatively with BCCC staff to perform the following:
- Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course syllabus, seated or hybrid.
- Maintain accurate registration, attendance, and payroll records for each course taught.
- Prepare, review, and update course syllabus on a regular basis.
- Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary.
- Use formative and summative assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching.
- Create an effective learning environment and use teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles.
- Submit required reports and fulfill all contract provisions.
- Assist students with clinical documentation requirements and upload documentation to clinical vendor.
- Assist students with Reporting Agency requirements: background checks, drug testing and uploading immunization information.
- Create and assign clinical locations, rotation dates/times, and monitor students’ progress.
- Assist with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.
- Maintain student, instructor, and staff confidentiality. Consistently monitor work area to ensure instructor and student data is being protected according to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.
- Multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
- Adapt and respond to changing work situations and environments in a positive manner.
- Participate in professional development activities designed to enhance job skills and knowledge, as agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.
- Interact with students, the public, the community, and co-workers in a cooperative, courteous and professional manner.
- Comply with the College’s policies and procedures.
- Assist with CoAEMSP’s documentation and requirements for accreditation.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities, as assigned by supervisor.
