A Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field with one year of experience teaching English as a Second Language is required. Successful candidates must have an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) certification or a post-secondary degree or have course work in English as a Second Language. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary as well as a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others. This position requires flexible hours throughout the day, evening, and occasional weekends.
A National Career Readiness Certification and bilingual are preferred.
The successful candidate will teach Language, Civics Education and Job Readiness Skills to adult English Language Learners from multiple countries and backgrounds. Classes will be located on the campus of Wayne Community College and at outreach sites within Wayne County. Responsibilities include assisting with curriculum development, instructional plans, student assessment, and professional development activities for adjunct instructors. The instructor will ensure accurate and timely recordkeeping and data entry in Web Attendance, Colleague, and Literacy Education Information System (LEIS). Additional duties are assist with the collection of data for weekly update reports and end of semester statistical reports. Attendance at college, divisional, and departmental meetings, and other college events is required. The instructor must complete the NC Basic Skills Core Credential within two years of their hire date and other required professional development on an annual basis. The instructor will perform other duties as assigned by administration.
