Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university. Knowledge of the process of second language acquisition and prior experience in teaching English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) in an adult setting is preferred. Communication, both oral and written, and computer skills necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience in teaching English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) in an adult setting or at the community college or four-year institution. On-line teaching experience. Career Readiness Certificate (CRC).

Position Description

Conduct personal interviews with students to set short/long term personal and career goals and plan/implement an appropriate course of instruction leading to a defined pathway

Manage multi-level classroom activities and provide instruction in a variety of ways (individual, pair-work, whole group, small group, computer-aided, tutorial, guest speakers, field trips, etc.) according to the learners’ needs.

Structure appropriate activities that develop English skills (listening, speaking, writing, pronunciation, and grammar) and in other academic areas according to the learners need.

Assist students in developing and refining appropriate vocabulary and idioms for use in a variety of settings (academic, workplace, etc.).

Assist students in becoming oriented to the campus resources (Library, Student Learning Center, etc.) and local community (school system, public events, available services, etc.); in dealing with culture shock; and in adapting to local customs and cultures.

Demonstrate knowledge of the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment (CASAS). Monitor and document students’ progress in relation to identified goals using a variety of evaluation techniques.

Incorporate latest instructional technologies in course delivery and utilize interactive learning technologies to engage students in the teaching and learning process.

Maintain face-to-face and/or online classroom environments conducive to student learning, engagement, and retention.

Maintain accurate records of contact hours on each student enrolled in classes and prepare and submit reports as required.
 

Continually develop and improve skills through professional development.
 

Provide quality customer service to students, faculty, and staff.

 

Participate in faculty committees and other activities, as assigned.
