Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an IT related field or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of progressive experience in systems software programming; or Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of progressive experience in systems software programming; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The mission of the North Carolina Community College System is to open the door to high-quality, accessible educational opportunities that minimize barriers to post-secondary education, maximize student success, develop a globally and multi-culturally competent workforce, and improve the lives and well-being of individuals by providing:

  • Education, training and retraining for the workforce including basic skills and literacy education, occupational and pre-baccalaureate programs.
  • Support for economic development through services to and in partnership with business and industry and in collaboration with the University of North Carolina System and private colleges and universities.
  • Services to communities and individuals which improve the quality of life.

The NCCCS is comprised of 58 community colleges serving 100 North Carolina counties and supported by the System Office located in Raleigh, NC.

The Technology Solutions and Distance Learning Division supports this mission by providing technical support for the Enterprise Resource Planning systems configured to deliver educational services for community college students, staff, faculty, employers, and the System Office.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Successful candidates will provide system administrative support for all supported ERP components included but not limited to: application and operating systems (Oracle Solaris 10 and 11, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 and Windows Server 2008+) configuration and troubleshooting, infrastructure (physical, virtual, and cloud environments), document management systems, databases (UniData, MS-SQL, or Oracle), and Web Services.

Ellucian Colleague support includes administration, SA-Valet, E-Commerce, Self Service, Web API, Mobile, E-Transcripts, Web Advisor, Ellucian User Interface, Ellucian Ethos Identity, Ellucian Ethos Integration, SFTP, Identity Management and custom interfaces including Accounts Receivable and Cash Reporting, NC E-Procurement, and System Office accounting and testing systems.

Each position is the primary support for one or more of these components and secondary support for 1 or more components, as assigned by the supervisor. Duties include providing advanced Help Desk support to the 58 NC Community Colleges and the System Office for these components. The position may also provide tertiary configuration management support in the absence of the primary and secondary Configuration Management analysts.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/AND ABILITIES:

  • Candidate must have 2+ years of medium to highly complex systems administration with at least two of the following operating systems; Oracle Solaris 10 or 11, Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Centos, and Windows Server 2008+
  • Basic knowledge of cloud architecture and Networks
  • Knowledge of, or experience working with governance, documentation, and change management documentation
  • Experience with system automation
  • Candidate should have strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Candidate should have strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to translate technical issues into understandable terms for non-technical users
  • Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • Ability to set priorities, know when priorities need to change, and can adapt to unanticipated changes
  • Demonstrates a sense of ownership of problems and takes on extra responsibilities to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Ability to build and maintain effective customer and co-worker relationships
  • Provide technical support to end users and system administrators
  • Develop documentation for application users and systems administrators

PREFERENCES:

  • Experience with Higher Education technology and integrated applications
  • Ability to install, upgrade, configure and maintain databases (UniData and MS-SQL) and Web Services
  • Automation and scripting skills
  • Operating Systems: Linux Red Hat Enterprise, Oracle Solaris 10 or 11, or Windows OS
  • Basic Networking Knowledge (DNS, Firewall, Security Groups)
  • Experience with process design software
  • Experience with SQL Server or Oracle
  • Good analytical, customer service and team-oriented interpersonal skills
