Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:   

THIS IS A PART TIME POSITION WITH NO BENEFITS / 20 – 25 HRS PER WEEK

Under general supervision of the Foundational Studies Director, the ESL Instructor is responsible for preparing lesson plans and teaching English to speakers of other languages in accordance with WIOA directives and applicable program guidelines. Must possess ability to adjust teaching styles to a variety of ages, levels, and language competencies and appreciate different cultures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Teach English as Second Language (ESL) for adult students in a classroom setting
  • Effectively teach English grammar, writing, reading, speaking, listening, pronunciation, and accent reduction skills
  • Introduce American civic values, culture, and customs to those who are newly arrived to the United States
  • Maintain required paperwork and electronic records accurately, and submit required documentation in an organized and timely manner.
  • Provide lesson plans in curriculum area to meet the goals and objectives based on academic assessments
  • Expand on existing curriculum in order to better serve various language learner functioning levels
  • Must have excellent communication skills and work cooperatively with colleagues and volunteers
  • Must maintain complete confidentiality of student’s personal information as outlined by FERPA
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited four-year university/college
  • Two years of teaching experience
  • Basic computer skills

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • ESL Certification and/or experience teaching English as a second language
  • Bilingual or understanding of other languages
  • Experience teaching English to speakers of other languages
