Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Experience developing and maintaining business and industry partnerships
  • Progressive experience in corporate settings
  • Experience leading/supervising education and training
  • Ability to collect and analyze data to forecast national, state, regional, and local educational and industry trends
  • Demonstrated ability to provide innovative approaches in response to educational and industry demands
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office including Word, Power Point, OneDrive, and Excel
  • Effective written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Business, Entrepreneurship, Corporate Training, Human Resources, Public Administration, or a similar area of study
  • Master’s degree or higher
  • Two years of full-time experience with supervision of corporate training or educational programs
  • Experience in the North Carolina Community College System
  • Experience with SACS-COC or another regional accreditation agency
  • Experience developing collaborative partnerships to further economic or workforce development
  • Experience developing or implementing training systems to support workforce development in diverse settings
  • Experience developing and managing small businesses or entrepreneurial endeavors
  • Supervisory experience
  • Budgeting experience
  • Goal setting and strategic planning experience
  • Experience in identifying needs and problems, creating innovative solutions, and managing multiple projects

Job Description

The Executive Director for Business Solutions is a full-time position located primarily in Union County with flexibility needed to travel within the community and to work at all SPCC locations. Under the direction of the President, the Executive Director provides leadership and oversees daily operations of South Piedmont’s: 

·         Corporate Training Program 

·         Small Business Center 

·         Career Services (Apprenticeship, Work-Based Learning, Career Center) 

The Executive Director serves as the primary external workforce and training representative from the College and promotes positive and substantive relationships with local business and industry partners. Further, the Executive Director sits on the Senior Leadership Team and collaborates with Academic Affairs schools to develop training solutions for local workforce needs. 

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Executive Director for Business Solutions works positively, respectfully, and collaboratively with other areas of the College and supports and advocates the college’s programs, initiatives, and direction as a contributing member of the College leadership team. 

Job Duties

Position Expectations:

  • Serve as the primary external representative for South Piedmont Community College related to workforce development and corporate training needs in Anson and Union Counties
  • Collaborate with administration, academic deans, faculty, and staff to identify and analyze education and training needs which support regional employers and related stakeholders
  • Collaborate with business, industry, community, or other educational institutions to build substantive partnerships that support the mission of the College
  • Provide leadership for and oversee economic and workforce development programs at the College, including Corporate Training, Career Services, and the Small Business Center
  • Develop short and long-term planning for and assessment of economic and workforce development efforts of the College
  • Promote quality in learning and instruction by using student-centered principles in leadership, management, hiring, scheduling, evaluation, and professional development.
  • Engage with all areas of the College to develop strategic plans that advance institutional, divisional, and departmental goals, especially as they relate to serving the business and industry community
  • Oversee the preparation and management of budgets and administrative reporting for areas of supervision
  • Develop and maintain close associations with Chambers of Commerce, regional and statewide Economic Development agencies, NC Community College System networks, and other appropriate business and professional organizations
  • Participate in public, civic, and service organization functions or associations and in other business and industry activities to advance the mission of the College
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to analyze workforce trends in support of programmatic changes at the College
  • Interact effectively, cooperatively, and professionally with diverse groups, which may include faculty, staff, administrators, business and industry leaders, government officials, and community representatives
  • Actively participate in student recruitment and retention activities, admissions, advising, and registration activities
  • Lead, supervise, direct, and evaluate staff
  • Actively participate in grant prospecting, authoring, editing, evaluation, and reporting
  • Demonstrate a high-level of professionalism, innovation, collaboration, and institutional commitment in all actions
  • Support and embrace the mission, vision, and strategic plan of South Piedmont and demonstrate the core values of the college in decisions, behaviors, and actions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President
